📸 Can we talk about AI-edited hair photos?

I think we need to start being really careful about asking AI to “just make the hair a little thicker”, “fill in the gaps” or “make it look smoother”.

Because what seems like a harmless edit can actually create completely unrealistic expectations for clients.

AI doesn’t always just smooth a few flyaways. It can change the density, shape, movement, texture and overall appearance of the hair.

And then comes the ripple effect…

A client sees an AI-enhanced photo and thinks:

“That’s what my hair should look like.”

Then they sit in the chair and expect that exact result.

But real hair has movement.
Real hair has different densities.
Real hair has finer areas.
Real hair has flyaways.
Real hair doesn’t sit perfectly in every single strand.

As hairstylists, our photos are our portfolio. They show potential clients what we actually do.

So yes, I’m all for good lighting, colour correction, cropping and making a photo look its best.

But there’s a BIG difference between enhancing a photograph and changing the result itself.

Because if we keep using AI to create the “perfect” version of hair, we’re not just editing a photo…

We’re changing the standard that real hair is being judged against.

And honestly, I think we need to be a little more proud of the real hair. 🤎
