Truro BID
Information on Truro BID's activities & businesses matters for those working in Truro City Centre. We first became operational in October 2007.
Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative which gives businesses the power to raise funds locally to be spent locally on improving a defined commercial area. Truro BID represents circa 380 Truro businesses and from 2007 to 2017 invested £3.4million into the City centre. We’re now in our fourth 5 year term, which runs until October 2027. We are independent from local authorities and other statutory agencies and deliver projects over and above the baseline service provided by them. Some of our work includes:
∙ Delivering and funding Truro’s annual City Centre Christmas Lights scheme (along with past donations from Lionel and Carol Knight).
∙ Enhancing the festive offer with street entertainment, large scale projections on buildings, traffic-free main shopping streets, markets, and supporting Coppice Theatre shows and Father Christmas grottos.
∙ Delivering the Truro Trend high-profile Catwalk at the Cathedral.
∙ Initiating and supporting one day markets; e.g. the Duchy Fair’s Cornwall Shop Small Markets and Truro Antiques and Collectables Markets.
∙ Joint-funding with Truro City Council the annual floral hanging baskets each spring.
∙ Working with Visit Truro to promote the city, including contributing financially to printed marketing activity (Truro Guides) and Visit Truro’s website.
∙ Representing the interests of businesses on plans for the Pydar Regeneration and Truro Town Fund investment plan.

The BIG Truro Market returns this Saturday 10 October, with local crafts, lifestyle products and produce.
Held on Lemon Quay from 9am to 4pm, it will feature around 60 Cornwall Shop Small and Truro Farmers Market stalls. Visitors can also enjoy live music, creative workshops and street food.
We are continuing to support Cornwall Shop Small with a small contribution towards operating costs, as the markets boost city centre footfall and can benefit local businesses, including hospitality.
The BIG Truro Market is also supported by Truro City Council and Visit Truro.

The Truro Antiques and Collectables Market is taking place today, Wednesday 7 October from 9.30am to 4pm.
The market, which we also previously delivered until 2023, will be at an exciting new location, outside the front of Truro Cathedral at High Cross.
Visitors and residents will be able to browse and buy a wide range of distinctive, pre-loved antiques and collectables items in front of the city’s historic cathedral.
The antiques market will begin on a slightly smaller scale than the former Lemon Quay event. We hope to grow the Truro Antiques and Collectables Market and bring it back for further dates next year, with more traders taking part.

Truro BID, in conjunction with Newham BID, are hosting the tenth City Clean Up on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October this autumn.
The aim of City Clean Up is to encourage as many businesses and organisations as possible to volunteer an hour or whatever time they can spare to get involved in helping to clean and tidy our great little city.
Local Community Volunteers are organising litter picks to take place in Truro's surrounding neighbourhoods as part of City Clean Up. Damien Richards, Community Development Officer, from Truro City Council will also be inviting Truro community groups to take part.
Truro Businesses, if you or your colleagues are interested in being part of City Clean Up within the City Centre on Friday 16 October, please email [email protected] ASAP and by Friday 9 October. It would be to do sign washing, cable tie cutting or litter picking for an hour.
We will supply high visibility vests, gloves, bags and litter sticks (thanks to Clean Cornwall).

We're bringing back the popular Truro Antiques and Collectables Market to the city centre next week on Wednesday 7 October from 9.30am to 4pm.
The market, which we previously delivered until 2023, will be at an exciting new location, outside the front of Truro Cathedral at High Cross.
We've listened to feedback from businesses and we're pleased to be bringing activity to the Pydar Street side of town.
Visitors and residents will be able to browse and buy a wide range of distinctive,
pre-loved antiques and collectables items outside the city’s historic cathedral.
The October antiques market will begin on a slightly smaller scale than the former Lemon Quay event. We hope to grow the Truro Antiques and Collectables Market and bring it back for further dates next year, with more traders taking part.

Truro BID launched the Truro Rangers Security Patrol in April 2023 as part of its 2022–2027 Business Plan, approved by levy payers in 2022. We currently fund 46 Truro Rangers patrol hours a week and plan to continue to do so for this financial year.
Since autumn 2024, a government-funded initiative has provided 14 additional weekly ‘Hot Spot Patrol’ hours in the evenings and on alternate Saturdays. Sadly, this government funding ended yesterday, Wednesday 30 September.
Previous Police and Crime Commissioner and previous Home Office funding was secured because crimes were being reported correctly to Devon and Cornwall Police - not directly to the Truro Rangers. Therefore, it's vital that businesses report all incidents correctly:
at the time via 999 or 101;
online at the website link below; or
through the SentrySIS Crime Reporting Tool.
We encourage Truro City Centre Businesses to join SentrySIS by emailing UKPAC at [email protected] with their name, business and email address.
We hope to apply for future government funding for more Hot Spot Patrols. Meanwhile, please continue reporting through the correct channels, not directly to the Truro Rangers.

Truro businesses are invited to the monthly Shop Watch meeting, on Tuesday 6 October 10am at Training Room 4a, Pydar House, Pydar St, TR1 1XU.
Shop Watch meetings give businesses a chance to share city centre crime related topics, local knowledge and issues with other businesses, Truro's anti-social behaviour officer, the police and Truro BID.
It would be great to have lots of businesses and organisations joining in, so just turn up to the Shop Watch meeting on Tuesday 6 October.

Truro city centre businesses can again request to borrow a Reindeer Christmas Light to enhance their festive window displays. Reindeer are available in three approx. heights: 4ft (Stag), 3ft (Doe) and 2ft (Baby).
Allocating, distributing and collecting nearly 100 reindeer lights is a time consuming task for our small team. So this year to request one, please complete the online form (link in comments) and select your preferred size.
Reindeer will be allocated on a first come, first served basis from mid-November. All businesses must apply via the short online form; previous recipients will not automatically receive a Reindeer Light unless they've completed the form.
Businesses should display the reindeer with the A5 sign provided which directs customers to for Saturday 21 November, and switch the light on that afternoon to coincide with Truro’s automatic Christmas lights switch-on.*
The reindeer were purchased in 2020 by Truro BID using government Accelerated Capital Funding from the Truro Town Deal.

As communicated last week, proposed changes to on-street parking in Truro city centre are being considered by Cornwall Council to help increase the turnover of spaces and improve access to parking for residents and visitors.
Cornwall Council are consulting on proposals to introduce a new system of on-street parking management at a number of locations in Truro - Castle Street, Little Castle Street, River Street, Kenwyn Street, Lemon Street, Tabernacle Street, Chapel Hill, Hendra Road, St George's Road, Stations Road.
All the locations are currently subject to free, limited-waiting parking restrictions ranging from 30 mins to 4 hours depending on the location.
Under the proposals, the existing free parking periods would be retained, but drivers would be required to obtain a parking session when they park. Drivers would then have the option to extend their stay by paying for additional parking time, up to the maximum stay permitted at that location.
There would be no charge for the initial free parking period. Parking sessions could be obtained using: a parking app, telephone; or a payment parking machine.
The proposed parking machines would accept card payments only and not cash.
We urge businesses to have their say by completing the online survey, which is open until 2 October 2026. See link to survey in comments.

If you see someone sleeping rough, please help by contacting the organisation StreetLink and calling 0300 500 0914 or visit their website at the address in the visual.
StreetLink can be used by anyone in England and Wales to send an alert about someone over 18 who is sleeping rough or preparing to sleep rough.
Don't make an alert if the person is begging or engaging in anti-social behaviour, unless you believe they are rough sleeping.
When you submit an alert:
- The details go to local outreach teams in the area
- These teams (mostly working at night) try to locate the person, assess their needs, and offer support
- The goal is to help people access the right services and move away from homelessness
StreetLink itself doesn't provide accommodation or go out to search for individuals — it connects members of the public with local outreach teams who can help.
