Top up vs bottom down !

Being triggered, a fall out with family or partner and being told to journal and wanting to scream it doesn’t work. I’ve been there and had to understand what was happening, turns out I wasn’t bad at journaling. My body was still mid-argument and nobody told my brain the meeting had ended.

Here’s the bit nobody explains: you’ve got two systems.

Top-down or a favourite of my clients b***s out 🍉🍉= the thinking brain. Journaling, reframing, “what’s the evidence for that thought.” Brilliant tools for a brain that’s actually online.

Bottom-up or bum out 🍑 = the body brain. Cold water, movement, humming (yes, really). Talks straight to your nervous system, no thinking required. These then automatically update and register safety through your vagus nerve.

When you’re dysregulated, top-down basically clocks off. So “just journal it out” isn’t bad advice it’s advice given in the wrong order.

Body first. THEN the pen.

Save this for next time a coping skill “doesn’t work” it might just be next in line, not wrong 👇

What’s your go-to body-first move when you’re mid-meltdown? Tell me below and if you want a tool that guide you through both check out our workbooks 📔✍️

Anxiety isn’t something you “fix” in one Instagram post.

It’s something you begin to understand.

This workbook takes you through 6 weeks of learning how your nervous system works, why anxiety feels so convincing, and what actually helps.

Inside you’ll find:
~ Simple, evidence-informed education that actually makes sense.
~ A new regulation skill to practise each week.
~ Daily check-ins to notice patterns.
~Reflection pages that build self-awareness.
~Space to think, write and process without judgement.

Because healing isn’t about trying harder.

It’s about understanding yourself well enough that anxiety no longer gets to run the show.

If you’ve ever thought,
“Why am I like this?”
this workbook was written for you.

A year ago this existed only in my head.

Today my little girls holding two books that I wrote, designed and self-published. Pretty much sums us up working after work at football practice and never stopping 😂😂😅

Every page was created with one goal: to make emotional wellbeing feel practical, understandable and accessible.

Headstrong Co. Emotional Wellbeing is slowly becoming everything I hoped it could beand this is only the beginning. 🤍

Lately I’ve realised that not every season of life is about having a plan.

Sometimes it’s about admitting that something doesn’t feel right anymore.

I love helping people. I love creating resources that genuinely make a difference. I love seeing Headstrong slowly become something I’m proud of.

But I’m also a mum. I have bills, responsibilities, doubts, and days where I wonder if I’m making the right decisions.

This carousel isn’t about having the answers. It’s about being honest enough to say, “I’m figuring it out.”

If you’ve ever felt like you’re outgrowing your current chapter but don’t quite know what comes next… you’re not alone.

Here’s to trusting ourselves enough to keep moving anyway.

Anxiety is one of the most common human experiences, yet it is often misunderstood.

It can show up as racing thoughts, tension in the chest, difficulty sleeping, irritability, avoidance, overworking, or a constant sense of being “on edge.”

For some people it is loud and disruptive. For others it hides behind competence, productivity, and capability. You may function well on the outside while feeling unsettled underneath.

This workbook does not approach anxiety as a flaw to eliminate.

Instead, it approaches anxiety as a nervous system response.
Your brain and body are designed to protect you. When something feels uncertain, threatening, or overwhelming, whether physically or emotionally, your nervous system activates. That activation is not weakness. It is protection. The difficulty arises when that protection
becomes overactive.

It’s not glamorous 😂 building a business while working full-time, raising two kids who have full time hobbies, studying, writing workbooks, filming content, doubting yourself… then getting up and doing it all again the next day.

Success isn’t one big moment. It’s showing up on the days you don’t feel like it. It’s choosing purpose over comfort, over and over again.

Watching people buy my workbook, message me saying it’s helped them, join my programmes, and trust me with their emotional wellbeing is something I’ll never take for granted. Every client, every order, every enquiry reminds me why I started.

I’m still building. I’m still learning. I’m still balancing work, motherhood, and chasing a vision that once only existed in my head.

Nothing happened overnight.

It was built through consistency, resilience, and refusing to give up on something I believed could make a difference.

If you’re in the messy middle, keep going. The small steps you’re taking today are laying the foundations for the life you’re trying to build. I’m nowhere near where I want to be yet, but I’m definitely not where I started.

Slow progress is still progress… and I’ll back myself every single time 🤍

Anxiety booklet to go live in July. Thank you to the 6 people who offered to pilot this for me xx
