My dad taught me how to make a mould before I ever picked up a tattoo machine.
He’s a retired orthopaedic technician and a below-knee amputee, so I grew up around casts, moulds and prosthetics, surrounded by this unusual mix of medical knowledge, hands-on skill and a real understanding of what it means when something helps you feel like you again.
At the time, I had no idea how much of that would stay with me.
I’m an artist at heart. For years, I was searching for a way to use that skill for something bigger than simply creating art.
Then I found restorative tattooing.
And suddenly, everything clicked.
But behind the scenes of NEN, I’ve been quietly working on something else.
Something that brings together my art, the skills I grew up watching my dad use, and everything I’ve learned from the people we support.
I’ve also trained with an incredible artist just to ensure I nail this project.
Because I don’t believe anyone should have to wait over a year to look in the mirror and feel more like themselves again.
I’ve kept this one quiet because I didn’t want to rush it. I wanted to learn, test, refine and get it right before I shared it.
And there’s another reason this project means so much to me.
It won’t only help the people who use it.
It will help fund the future of the work we’re doing through NEN, allowing us to reach and support even more people.
It feels like a lot of pieces of my life have been quietly leading to this.
And I’m finally nearly ready to show you.

I’m completely obsessed with this one…
Soon, Ar**la Tattooing North East Newcastle will be offering something new to continue our mission, helping people feel like themselves again.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been training with an incredible artist to grow my skills and offer even more advanced ways to help restore someone’s sense of identity.
It feels like a bit of a full circle moment, I grew up around a similar trade through my dad. Late nights of practice, chats with him, and learning from a truly leading artist have brought me here, ready to bring this to the North East in a way that feels real and heartfelt.
We’re not quite ready yet, artistic skill like this doesn’t happen overnight. Like tattooing, it takes a thousand mistakes, troubleshooting, and determination. My 1am finishes and the bags under my eyes are proof of that 😂
But it’s coming… and we are so excited to share it with you.

Access vs. Specialism
NHS ar**la tattooing gives people something vital, the first step back after mastectomy. Colour, symmetry, a return to feeling like themselves. That access matters, and it’s often the only option available.
What specialism adds is dimension.
This before and after shows the difference realism technique makes, shading and light built to create the illusion of protrusion, so the ar**la looks three-dimensional even on flat, healed skin. It’s not about one being “better” than the other. It’s about what’s possible when artistry comes into play.

Todays questions is about scalp scarring, something we don’t speak about enough!
Yes! and it’s one of the most common reasons people come to me. Whether it’s a surgical scar, a hair transplant scar, or one from an injury, SMP works by tattooing tiny pigment dots into the scar tissue itself. Those dots blend with your natural hair follicles, so the scar blends into the pattern instead of standing out, even with hair over it, it just disappears.
It takes a few sessions to build the density right, but once it’s healed, most people can’t even find the scar unless I point to it.
