If you are heading off in the next few weeks, the timing of your treatments matters.

Anti wrinkle injections and dermal filler need around two weeks to settle properly before you travel. Skin boosters are best started four weeks ahead so results have time to develop. Dermaplaning or a facial is ideal in the week before you go, and a Hydrafacial three to five days beforehand leaves your skin in the best possible condition.

Dermal filler has a reputation problem, and it comes almost entirely from the small number of cases where it has been done badly.

Here is the reality. Dermal filler is a hyaluronic acid gel, the same substance your skin produces naturally, placed beneath the skin to restore volume that has been lost, define contours or soften lines. It is not permanent. It gradually dissolves over nine to eighteen months depending on the area treated.

Done well, nobody should be able to tell you have had anything at all. They should simply think you look well.

Polynucleotides, sometimes called PDRN or PN treatments, have become one of the most discussed developments in aesthetics over the past two years. Here is what they actually are.

They are purified DNA fragments derived from salmon, which are remarkably compatible with human skin. Injected into the skin, they activate your own repair processes, stimulating the cells responsible for producing collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

Unlike filler, they do not add volume. They improve the quality of the skin itself, which is why they work so well for crepey texture, dullness and under eye concerns.

If you have had an injectable treatment, a peel or any energy based treatment in the last two weeks, hot weather changes your aftercare slightly.

Heat increases blood flow and can make swelling more noticeable after injectables. Freshly treated skin is also considerably more vulnerable to UV, which means pigmentation is a real risk if you skip your SPF.

For the first forty eight hours after any injectable treatment, avoid saunas, very hot baths and direct midday sun. Use SPF 50 daily for at least two weeks afterwards. And keep well hydrated, which helps everything settle more comfortably.
