The main focus was on technique and application over content creation and social media as Lynsey is wanting to get more confidence behind the chair after setting up her own space.

With Blonding being one of the ever changing techniques I focused on what the majority of people are asking for these days.
Clients are wanting to go longer in between appointments.
Clients are asking for much more lived in looks.
Clients want beautiful hair without having to be at the salon every 6 weeks.
They also don’t want to be sat in the salon all day long!

So this lived in blonding technique is the perfect look for the client who is asking for just that.

To put your work out against the best of the best in the world takes huge balls but to then be nominated alongside people I have looked up to my whole career and inspire me every single day always blows me away.

The request: I just want my natural ginger with some lighter pieces.

My main goal was to eliminate the darker sections and at least get them to a copper which actually lifted out pretty well considering this colour had been done a few times using permanent colour (not done by me).
Some tweaks to be done on the next appointment but we were both so happy with the outcome.

Once I lifted the dark sections to a copper level 8, I shampooed and towel dried and applied MWV 2 parts 7.4 1 part 9.04 1:2 5 vol to mids and ends to get me closer to a blank canvas.
Then I blast dried and scattered some balayage foils throughout to add some dimension back.
Shampooed and towel dried and root melted using shades eq 07C into 50g 010WG 40g 09G 20g 09AA

Lightened using Redken Flashlift 20vol
Toner using Davines Color MWV 2 parts 7,4 1 part 9,04
Global gloss using Redken shades eq
Zone 1: 07C
Zone 2&3: 50g 010WG 40g 09G 20g 09AA
OLAPLEX added to all formulas

After a really difficult 24 months.. this really means the world.

Social media is always preparing you for when your career blows up.. none prepares you for when it takes a 360 from what you imagined it would be.

I honestly felt like my entries this year were not up to par with my previous years. With so many things going on in real life I just felt like I wasn’t able to show up on social media like I have for the past 8 years, I never lost the passion but I got so caught up in the ‘this is what your career and work should look like’ I lost all sight of what truly matters..

What really matters to me is the people who are constantly showing up and supporting me. The weekly clients, the clients who continue to come back to me even when times where hard.

This past 2 years I’ve really learnt a lot about putting your energy into the right places. Which is why this nomination means more to me than the other years.

The other years I had a chip on my shoulder. I thought the world owed me something.. it turns out the world ia giving me exactly what I need and deserve.. it’s up to me how I interpret that and where I let that lead me. Going forward I will be doing what brings me peace, happiness and joy for my actual job behind the chair. I’m no longer being told what I should or shouldn’t be.. if it brings you happiness then that is what you should be doing.. forget everything else.

A huge thank you to Mary Rector Kevin Givens and everyone behind the scenes at behindthechair.com & HAIR AWARDS for constantly making this boy from a small town in Wales feel seen. I will forget be grateful and honoured to be recognised alongside the best of the best all over the world. It will always feel like I’m an imposter but I’m learning to accept my hard work is being recognised.

To those who enter and aren’t nominated, please don’t take it as a fail. You put your work out into a world of the best of the best and for that alone you should be so proud of yourself. A nomination is just one single step closer than you already are.. keep going and keep pushing, the world is seeing you.
