As you can see, the completely dry sponge doesn’t absorb the water as readily, while the sponge that already has some moisture is more receptive to it.

I’m using the sponges to illustrate a simple principle: our hair needs consistent hydration. When hair is allowed to become excessively dry, simply applying products isn’t the same as restoring moisture. Water is the foundation of hydration.

But there’s something else we need to think about—the quality of the water we use.

Hard water contains minerals that can build up on the hair over time, leaving it feeling dry, dull or more difficult to manage. Softer water is generally gentler on the hair and can help us get better results from our hair-care routine.

So yes… hair likes water. But consistency—and the quality of that water—matter too.
