Some folks working with the government of Ivory Coast/ Côte d'Ivoire 🇨🇮 invited me to explore opening a Ma'ati Spa location in their country. Now I know how this usually goes in West Africa. They expected me to walk in with envelopes, paying off ministers left and right.

Nah fellas…

I'm a SEASONED businesswoman in Africa now. Ghana taught me everything I needed to know. So I sat down and let them know real quick. I'm not paying anybody anything as a matter of fact, YOU will pay ME.

I AM the one bringing thousands of tourists to your country. I'm the one boosting your economy, creating jobs, monetizing natural resources, training the youth, developing waterfall communities & keeping them clean. So here's how this is going to work…You're covering my flight, you're picking me up from the airport with a proper welcome, you're putting me up in a five-star hotel, and you're driving me around to scout locations for the spa.

This is NOT going to be a situation where you try to take advantage because you think I'm a “rich American”. Nope!

I know my value. I know what I bring. This will not be a one sided deal. Save that for the white man. I am a descendent of the ancestors who were forced to slave in the West. We built the West into the most powerful economy on the planet. Now we have the tools, the education, the resources, the tenacity, the GRIT and the motivation to make it happen and you will not take advantage of us returning home to develop. Désolée 🤷🏿‍♀️
