What does Hyaluronic Acid actually do? 💧

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it helps attract and hold water in the skin.

Used correctly, it can help skin feel:
• more hydrated
• plumper
• smoother
• more comfortable
• less tight and dehydrated

One little tip that makes a big difference: apply it to slightly damp skin rather than completely dry skin.

After cleansing, leave the skin just a little damp, apply your hyaluronic acid serum, then follow with your moisturiser to help seal that hydration in.

And remember — not all hyaluronic acid products are the same. The overall formula matters too, especially ingredients like glycerin, ceramides, panthenol and niacinamide.

More product doesn’t always mean better skin.
Consistency + the right formula for your skin = the goal.

It’s not just about the HA.
Look at the whole formula.

Hyaluronic acid is a brilliant humectant — but the best hydrating product isn’t necessarily the one shouting “HYALURONIC ACID” the loudest on the bottle. 😂

When I compare formulas, I’m also looking for ingredients such as glycerin, panthenol, ceramides, cholesterol, niacinamide and other barrier-supporting ingredients.

That’s why my favourites here are formulas that do more than temporarily plump the skin — they help support hydration and the skin barrier too.

And remember: the “best” one still depends on your skin.
A lightweight gel may suit an oily/dehydrated skin beautifully, while a dry or compromised barrier may need something richer and more supportive.

✨ Beauty Skin Science Tip of the Week ✨

I often get asked about barrier-support creams and whether a richer cream is always the best option.

We hear so much about Cicaplast Baume B5, (my personal favourite product ever) and for good reason — it’s a lovely soothing, repairing balm, especially when skin is feeling irritated, dry or compromised.

But sometimes clients find it a little heavy on the face.

Recently I tried Lipikar AP+M Baume, and although it’s still a nourishing balm, I found it felt like a lighter option on my skin compared to Cicaplast.

That doesn’t mean one is better than the other — it just shows how important it is to choose products based on your skin’s needs and your comfort.

💚 Cicaplast Baume B5
Great when skin feels irritated, compromised, dry or in need of extra support.

💚 Lipikar AP+M Baume
A lovely option for dry, sensitive skin that still needs barrier support and hydration.

The main takeaway?
You do not always need the richest product — you need the right product for your skin.
