Have you ever noticed yourself taking a long, deep breath during reflexology, even though you weren’t consciously trying to?
At the beginning of a session, your breathing may still be quite quick or shallow. As you become comfortable, feel less distracted and realise that nothing is expected of you for the next while, it may begin to soften naturally.
When we are busy, worried or rushing, the body can remain in a more alert state. As we begin to relax, the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system becomes more active. This is the part associated with rest, recovery and settling after stress.
Reflexology gives you a period of stillness, supportive touch and focused attention, away from phones, jobs and everyday demands. For some people, that environment makes it easier to unwind, and a change in breathing may simply be one of the ways that relaxation shows itself. Some studies have recorded changes in heart-rate variability following foot reflexology or foot massage, suggesting possible short-term changes in autonomic activity.
As reflexologists, we often notice the moment a client releases a long breath or lets out a little sigh. We don’t see it as something they need to make happen. It is simply a lovely sign that they may be feeling more comfortable and allowing themselves to settle.
Not everyone’s breathing changes, and there is no “correct” way to respond to a treatment. Some people become very still, some chat for a while, and others take most of the session to properly relax. All of that is completely normal.
You don’t need to concentrate on your breathing or try to switch off. Just get comfortable and let your body find its own pace. 💜

We don’t often think about our digestion until something feels “off”. Bloating, sluggishness, discomfort, or that feeling that your stomach is just not quite cooperating can have a real impact on how you feel day to day.
One thing that’s often overlooked is the connection between the gut and the nervous system.
When we’re stressed, our body naturally prioritises survival over digestion. Blood flow is redirected, stress hormones increase, and processes like digestion can slow down or become less efficient. It’s one of the reasons many people notice digestive symptoms become worse during busy or stressful periods.
This is where reflexology may help.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that encourages the body to move into a more relaxed, “rest and digest” state. By supporting nervous system regulation, reflexology may help create the conditions that allow the digestive system to function more effectively. Many people also find that regular sessions help them become more aware of the connection between stress, lifestyle, and their digestive health.
It’s important to remember that reflexology isn’t a treatment for digestive conditions, but it can be a valuable addition to a holistic approach to wellbeing alongside a balanced diet, regular movement, good hydration, quality sleep, and advice from your healthcare professional where needed.
Sometimes our gut isn’t asking for another supplement or the latest wellness trend.
Sometimes it’s asking us to slow down.
Have you ever noticed your digestion changes when life gets particularly stressful?

Many of us have never heard the word homeostasis, yet our bodies work hard to maintain it every single day.
Homeostasis is the body’s ability to keep its internal environment stable, even when the world around us is constantly changing. Whether it’s regulating body temperature, balancing fluid levels, managing energy, supporting sleep-wake cycles, or responding to stress, your body is continuously making small adjustments to keep everything functioning within a healthy range.
Think of it as your body’s internal balancing act.
When we’re well-rested, physically active, adequately nourished, and managing stress effectively, these regulatory systems tend to work more efficiently. However, prolonged stress, poor sleep, illness, emotional strain, and the demands of modern life can place extra pressure on the body’s ability to maintain balance.
This is where reflexology may play a supportive role.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that encourages relaxation and supports nervous system regulation. When the body moves away from a prolonged “fight or flight” response and into a more restorative state, it may be better able to carry out the many processes involved in maintaining internal balance.
While reflexology doesn’t directly control homeostasis, it can help create favourable conditions for the body’s natural self-regulatory mechanisms to function effectively. This may support healthy sleep patterns, stress adaptation, emotional wellbeing, energy balance, and overall resilience.
At its heart, homeostasis is about balance.
And sometimes, supporting wellbeing isn’t about forcing the body to do more. It’s about giving it the opportunity to do what it was designed to do all along.

A father’s love is rarely loud. It shows up in the early mornings, the long days, the worries he never speaks about, and the sacrifices he never asks to be thanked for.
He is the steady hand, the quiet strength, and the safe place we carry with us wherever life takes us.
Today we honour every father, grandfather, stepfather and father figure whose love has shaped lives and built futures.
Happy Father’s Day. You are appreciated more than words can say.
