Cream Lightener + 5 vol

5 vol because I wanted a slower, more controlled lift. This service wasn’t about lifting as much as possible, it was about creating soft brightness exactly where I wanted it.

5 + 5.8
One of my favourite things about the Danger Jones Gloss Toners is that they’re non progressive, so they won’t keep getting darker.
5 gave me the depth, while 5.8 kept the brunette rich, reflective and dimensional.

Putting my accidental years subscription to to good use 😅🐾

Grey blending is all about recreating what’s naturally happening at the root.

In this case, her regrowth was mostly dark hair with silver sprinkled throughout. Rather than making her lighter, I recreated that same balance through the mids and ends.

✨ Baby fine highlights were placed anywhere the natural silver was already showing, with extra around the hairline where she had the most white.

✨ Then I applied my darker formula between the foils.

Highlights : DJ cream lightener and 10vol

Darker Formula:
• DJ Epilogue 6.01 + 6.2 ( Added a splash of copper to fill the previously lightened ends and keep the darker result rich instead of hollow) Mixed 1:2 with 5vol to create an alkaline demi. (Still so excited about the fact that you can do this)
Toner to finish : DJ gloss toners 10.12 + 9.1

The biggest “oh sh*t” moment for me with grey blending was learning to stop chasing the grey and start matching the natural pattern. Once you see the regrowth that way, your formulation decisions become much simpler 🫶

Everyone talks about grey blending like it’s one technique.
It isn’t.
This client had more pepper than salt, so taking her lighter would’ve created more maintenance, not less.
Keeping the depth softened the contrast, preserved her brunette, and gave her a much more seamless grow out.

Formula for my grey blending 🖤
Pepper: Epilogue 5.8 mixed 1:2 with 5vol (this turns it into an alkaline demi)
Salt: Lightened with DJ cream lightener and 10vol, toned with DJ gloss toners
10.12 + 9.1 🖤🤍
