Salon jobs … let’s talk about it .
I have interviewed for 3 salons worked in 2 and now I oversee interviews and these are the first things I look at .

How the nail is prepped and what steps I would cut .
Whether or not you need to refine your gel/biab with the hand or efile .
How you paint a nail .

When I prep a nail my sanding band does 80% of my work for me , cuticles pushed back nails buffed and blended all with the sanding band .
If needed I will use a cuticle bit to get anything else off the nail plate then I cut the cuticles and shape . This takes me 15 minutes it used to take 30 .

I watch how the nail is painted because we need to know you can apply a polish smoothly a lot of people still get regular nail polish and you can’t apply that with a liner brush 3 brushes first coat and 3-4 brushes second coat as close to the cuticle and side walls as possible .

If you won’t or do not want to do feet tge salon is not for you , pedicures and shellac toes are some of the most popular services in a salon I don’t do them everyday but I do them every week .

It’s not like at home where you have your favourite biab and your 3 nippers the nippers are cleaned sanitised and bagged for you you get what you get and you don’t get upset I used to swear by scissors all I use know are nippers and not the nice short ones I use whatever’s in the bag I picked up .

For an interview bring your own tools , you want to show your best work so work with what you know salons are used to people bringing their own nippers and drill bits to interviews it doesn’t make you weird .

Your educator is brilliant and taught you well but not all of them have worked in a salon 1 hour 30 is okay at home but in a salon 1 hour is expected (we understand slow work at first but the timing does need to come down) I cannot remember the last time I used a flame bit or polishing ball I have 3 drill bits and that’s all.
1 for debulking 1 sanding band for cuticle work blending refining and polishing and one tiny diamond barrel for if I need to get a hard cuticle off the nail bed .
