Try this before you text. Press your thumb gently into the sore area for a few seconds. If that pressure feels like relief, deep tissue is usually the better fit. It’s firmer work on the back, neck and shoulders, and we can ease it back if it’s too much.

If your whole body feels tired, or the muscles feel tender before anyone even touches them, relaxation massage is often enough for that day.

Thai foot reflexology isn't a full body massage.

You can come in normal comfortable clothes. Socks and shoes come off, and it helps if trousers can roll up a little above the ankle.

You’ll sit back in the reclining chair while I work over the feet and lower legs. It’s pressure and massage, not heavy work on the whole body. Some points can feel tender around the arch, heel or calf, so tell me if I need to ease off.

When we’re finished you just get your socks and shoes back on and away you go.

The circles after cupping look worse than they feel.

They’re the marks people see in photos and think the treatment must be very harsh. It isn’t usually like that. The cups use suction, so blood is brought up nearer the surface of the skin. That can leave a round red or purple mark.

I don’t call them bruises because they haven’t come from a bang or a knock. They normally fade over a few days.

A car insurance advert came roaring through the relaxation music once.

It was during a full body massage, when the room was meant to be quiet. I went over to the speaker and turned it down as fast as I could. The client stayed lying there under the towel and we both had a small laugh.

I paid for the ad-free version that evening.
