It happens before I’ve even finished bringing the massage bed inside.

And almost every time, I have to say the same thing.

“Don’t worry about me.”

Without even thinking...

“Are you sure you’re okay carrying everything?”
“Can I get you a glass of water?”
“Sorry about the mess.”

It’s like we automatically slip into looking after the other person.

One of my favourite parts of my job is reminding clients that, for the next hour, they don’t have to do any of that.

You don’t need to tidy.
You don’t need to make me comfortable.
You don’t need to apologise for anything.

Just show me where you’d like me to set up, and I’ll take care of the rest.

I think that’s one of the reasons people love having a massage at home.

For once, you get to stop being the one looking after everyone else... and let someone look after you instead💗

Every now and then, a client tells me something that makes me happy.

“I realised I hadn’t thought about my back all day at work.”

It’s such a simple sentence, but I think it says everything.

Because before that, their back was always there, in the background.

Every time they stood up.
Every time they sat down.
Every time they got into the car.
Every time they reached for something.

It was constantly asking for their attention.

Then one day... it doesn’t.
Not because they’ve forgotten about it.

Because it isn’t demanding to be noticed anymore.

That’s the moment I love most.

Not when someone tells me they feel better after the massage.

But when they realise they spent a whole day without thinking about their back.

I don’t think feeling good in your body should be something you only notice after a massage.

I think it should become your normal💗

It’s what you stop noticing a few days later.

You finish work and realise you still have energy to go for a walk.

You turn to reverse the car and it doesn’t catch.

You get into bed and you’re comfortable instead of spending ten minutes tossing and turning to find a comfortable position

Those little moments might not seem like much.

But to me, they’re everything.

Because they tell me your body isn’t falling back into the same pattern it always has.

Our bodies are incredible at learning patterns.

For some people, stress ends up in their shoulders. For others, it’s their neck or lower back.

Over time, that becomes your body’s default.

When we work with clients, we’re not just trying to loosen tight muscles for an hour.

We’re working to interrupt that pattern, so your body no longer feels the need to hold onto so much tension.

That’s why the biggest difference isn’t always what happens during the massage.

It’s what happens afterwards...

When you feel good in your body, you have a little more space to enjoy your life. 💗

The biggest difference isn’t actually what you’d expect.

When Laura first started coming for pregnancy massage, every appointment started with her telling me what was bothering her the most - hips, back, swelling etc

A few months later, those conversations had changed.

“I feel so much better in my body.”
“I’ve been sleeping so much better.”
“I can actually enjoy going for a walk again.”

That’s the biggest difference I notice.

It isn’t that pregnancy suddenly becomes easy.

It’s that you feel more comfortable in your body.

Most people assume it’s because they’ve been sitting at a desk all day.

Sometimes that’s only a small part of it.

We hear people all the time saying, *”It’s because I’m working at a desk.”*

Then, a few minutes later, they’ll say...

*”It’s where I hold all my stress.”*

And that’s the part I pay attention to.

Your body learns where to hold tension.

For some people it’s their jaw. For others it’s their lower back.

For so many of the people we see, it’s their shoulders.

Over time, your body gets so used to holding stress there that it becomes the default.

You might wake up feeling okay, but by the evening your shoulders are creeping back up towards your ears, you’re rubbing your neck again or constantly trying to stretch them out.

It’s not because you’ve suddenly done something wrong that day.

It’s because your body has learned that’s where it carries the load.

When we work with clients, we’re not just trying to loosen tight muscles for an hour.

We’re helping interrupt that pattern so your body doesn’t feel the need to hold onto so much tension there.

And that’s usually when something interesting happens...

A few days later they realise they haven’t thought about their shoulders all day.

Not because they’re thinking about relaxing.

Because their body stopped asking for their attention. 💗

We never rush straight in.

There’s always a little bit of time at the beginning.

We chat about how you’ve been feeling, what’s been bothering you and confirm what you want from your massage that day.

Then we ease into the treatment instead of going straight in with deep pressure.

I’ve found that when your mind starts to slow down, your body follows.

Your muscles soften.
Your breathing changes.
And that’s when I can really start working.

The same goes for the end of your massage.

We don’t finish and expect you to jump straight back into your day.

We leave a couple of quiet minutes for you to enjoy that post massage feeling before getting up.

Those few minutes might seem small but I think they’re one of the most important parts of the whole massage.

Because feeling good in your body is something that should never be rushed 💗

You stop thinking about it!

You get to the end of the day and realise you haven’t rubbed your neck once.

You can’t remember the last time you had to hold the bottom of your back because it was aching.

You look over your shoulder to reverse the car and there’s no twinge.

Feeling good in your body isn’t always a big moment.

Sometimes it’s simply not thinking about your body at all.

People think deep tissue should hurt.

I don’t.

When you’re curling your toes, tensing up your muscles and pretending that you’re okay your body is in protection mode.

Protection isn’t relaxation.

And relaxed muscles are the muscles that let us work deeper.

And muscles that are protecting themselves don’t let us work deeper.

That’s why we spend time building up the pressure so your body allows us to sink in and not fight against us.

The best deep tissue massage isn’t the most painful one.

It’s the one that leaves you feeling good in your body.
