A young entrepreneur has urged the Government to support the next generation of small-business owners in Budget 2026 as they battle against the costs of growing their businesses online.

Fionn O’Callaghan (21), owner of ­barbershop Callas Cuts in Co Wexford, made the call “because businesses will not survive over the next 10 years if they do not digitalise themselves”.

Mr O’Callaghan started out cutting hair in his spare room with a €30 razor in 2021 and has since built up a client list of over a 140 people and built a permanent premises at his home, while being a full-time student.

Currently on a journey to grow the online presence of his business, he spoke about the associated cost of expanding online for small businesses ­attempting to reach consumers who are now increasingly moving away from town centres and onto the internet.

“I went through a large digitalisation process, turning the barbershop into an online brand, and I’d be lying to say the associated costs were low,” he said.

In Budget 2026, Mr O’Callaghan wants to see the Government actively supporting young entrepreneurs.

"What I would like to see, bottom line, is simplifying access to grants and increasing the funding in general.

“And a student entrepreneur grant that can help you towards college fees and towards the business as you are trying to get off the ground.

“It’s only going to contribute to Ireland’s economic prosperity and wellbeing in the future"
