☀️ Sunscreen spotted at Sligo University Hospital! 👏
It’s fantastic to see sun safety made so accessible for patients, visitors and staff. Small initiatives like free sunscreen dispensers and public education can make a real difference in reducing skin cancer risk.
As healthcare professionals, we all have a role in encouraging prevention, early detection and regular skin checks.
Remember the ABCDEs of melanoma:
🔸 A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other.
🔸 B – Border: Irregular, blurred or uneven edges.
🔸 C – Colour: Multiple colours or uneven pigmentation.
🔸 D – Diameter: Greater than 6 mm (although melanomas can be smaller).
🔸 E – Evolving: Any mole or lesion that is changing in size, shape, colour or symptoms.
If you notice anything new, changing or unusual, don’t ignore it assessed by your GP or a dermatology professional.
A huge well done to the Roinn Sláinte, Department of Health and the NCCP for continuing to promote sun safety and skin cancer awareness through initiatives like this. Prevention really is better than cure.
