I’m delighted to take part in Meath Made Creates for Change, a free evening of sustainable creativity and live demonstrations, supported by Meath County Council.

Sustainable cleaning is a big part of this and something I’ve been interested in and practising in my own home for many years.

My years of studying and working with aromatherapy and holistic therapies have shaped how I think about wellbeing — not simply what we put on our bodies, but what we use around us, in our homes and eventually release back into our environment.

Over the years I’ve gradually moved towards a simpler, more considered way of doing things: using ingredients such as bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and Castile soap; using essential oils thoughtfully where appropriate; reusing what I already have; reducing unnecessary products and packaging; and asking whether I actually need something before I buy it.

It’s also about remembering that what we use doesn’t simply disappear. What goes down our sinks, into our wastewater or out into our gardens can ultimately become part of a much bigger environmental picture, including our waterways and aquatic ecosystems.

If this is something you’ve been interested in, have already started exploring, or have been meaning to try but aren’t quite sure where to begin — come along and have a chat.

Bring me your everyday cleaning dilemmas! A coffee mug that just won’t come clean? Limescale driving you mad? Wondering what you could use instead of another disposable or heavily fragranced product? Bring your questions — or even bring the offending item with you! 😄

I’ll be demonstrating some of the simple methods I use at home, sharing recipes and looking at small, realistic swaps we can make — not by throwing everything out and starting again, but by using what we already have and thinking a little differently about what we really need.

And really, that’s very much what Anam & Bláth is about — nurturing ourselves while respecting what surrounds us, using what we have thoughtfully, reducing waste and making more conscious choices.

🌕 Harvest Moon | Gealach an Fhómhair

Tonight, the Harvest Moon rises over us.

A full moon at the beginning of autumn feels like a natural invitation to pause.

Not to gather more.

But perhaps to let something go.

As the land begins its own slow release — leaves falling, flowers fading, seeds returning to the earth — we can take our cue from nature.

Run a warm bath.
Light a candle.
Drop in a botanical bath melt and allow the oils to soften into the water.

Let the warmth settle the body while the aroma fills the space.

🌿 For the bath:
Lavender • Mandarin • Frankincense - Siocháin| Serenity Blend

And while you soak, ask yourself quietly:

What am I ready to release?
What no longer needs to come with me into the darker months?

For the room, I love something deeper and earthier tonight:

Harvest Moon Diffuser Blend
3 drops Sweet Orange
2 drops Frankincense
1 drop Cedarwood
1 drop Patchouli

Warm, grounding and woody — a little reminder to come back down to earth.

And perhaps afterwards, step outside for a moment.

Look up.

The same moon has risen over this landscape for generations — over the Boyne, over the fields and hedgerows, over those who gathered the harvest here long before us.

No elaborate ritual required.

Just warm water, plants, scent, moonlight — and a little space to let go. 🌕🌿

A lovely little surprise 💚

Delighted to spot our Botanical Soap Making Workshop featured in the August/September edition of Meath Life Magazine as one of their must-see events in Meath.

This workshop was part of August Craft Month at the Swift Cultural Centre, where we spent a gorgeous afternoon exploring traditional soap making, botanicals and essential oils — and everyone went home with their own handmade soaps.

There’s something very special about seeing Anam & Bláth in print. 🌿

A lovely reminder of a brilliant day, and of how much I enjoy sharing the craft and knowledge behind the products I make.

Go raibh mile maith agat Meath Life, for including us. 🤍

🍂 Beannachtaí an Fhómhair
Autumn Blessings

Fómhar — the season of gathering.

Today we reach a moment of balance — light and darkness standing almost equal before the nights begin to draw in.

For our ancestors, autumn was not simply a change in the weather. It was a season of gathering and preparation. Herbs were dried, fruits and berries gathered, food preserved and the last of the harvest brought home before winter.

Here in Meath, we don't have to travel far to be reminded of just how closely our ancestors watched the changing light. At Loughcrew, the ancient passage tombs bear witness to a people deeply connected to the movement of the sun and the turning seasons.

And now the landscape begins to lead us towards Samhain. 🔥

The old stories begin to creep in too…

The Cailleach, the ancient woman of the landscape, belongs to the darker half of the year and the coming of winter.

The Púca appears throughout Irish folklore — mischievous, unpredictable and closely associated with Samhain. Even the old warnings around picking the last blackberries remind us that there was once a time to gather…and a time to leave well enough alone. 🫐

And as Samhain approached, thoughts traditionally turned towards those who had gone before us, the ending of one season and the beginning of another.

But we're not quite there yet.

Today is the pause between.

A time to gather.
A time to be thankful.
A time to prepare for what comes next.

Lus na meala 🌿
Lemon Balm | Melissa officinalis
“The herb of honey”

There’s something very satisfying about growing a plant, watching it flourish through the summer and then harvesting it to preserve for the months ahead.

My lemon balm has been absolutely thriving in the holistic garden this summer. Its fresh, citrusy aroma is one of my favourites — even my children love picking a leaf, gently squeezing it between their fingers and releasing that beautiful lemon scent.

Traditionally, lemon balm has long been associated with calm, relaxation and supporting the nervous system. The fresh or dried leaves make a lovely herbal tea, particularly when you want to unwind or quieten a busy mind.

At this time of year, I begin harvesting and drying mine. Once completely dry, some is stored for later use and some is gently infused into a blend of olive and sunflower oils, capturing the oil-soluble components of the herb in a beautiful golden botanical infusion.

You can make a traditional infused oil at home too — dried lemon balm, completely covered in your chosen carrier oil and left to infuse for around 4–6 weeks, before straining. I use a gentle warm-infusion method for mine.

It’s a wonderfully simple process that has been used by herbalists for generations:

Grow → Harvest → Dry → Infuse 🌿

And this particular infusion has another destination at Anam & Bláth...
but I’ll save that for the next post. 🤍

A little look back at a wonderful weekend at Meath Made Creates – Festival of Craft, Design & Creativity 🌿✨

It was such a busy weekend that I never quite got around to sharing it properly at the time!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, stopped by the Anam & Bláth stand, chatted, shopped, supported local craft and joined us for our workshops. 💗

We were absolutely delighted to have both of our workshops fully booked, and it was such a pleasure to spend time creating, sharing and meeting so many lovely people.

Thank you to Meath Made, all of the makers, organisers and everyone involved in bringing such a beautiful celebration of Irish craft and creativity together.

And now we're looking towards autumn… 🍂

Next stop: Kells for the Samhain Festival, where Anam & Bláth will be delving into the traditions, botanicals and rituals of the season with our Samhain Apothecary. 🌿🕯️

See you in Kells. 🤎

🌻 Lus na Gréine — Plant of the Sun

Our sunflowers have certainly lived up to their name this summer! Some are now standing well over six feet tall, and I just had to capture them before their season comes to an end.

Associated with light, vitality and abundance, there’s something beautiful about the sunflower’s natural cycle — from one tiny seed comes this magnificent plant, which in turn gives us an abundance of seeds to begin again. 🌱

As summer starts to fade, these beauties will soon be harvested and left to dry naturally. Their seeds will then be carefully collected and saved, ready to be used and planted again.

Grown, enjoyed, harvested and returned to the earth. 🌻🌱

🤎 Celebrating Nature's Little Luxury – Organic Cocoa Butter

On National Chocolate Day, we're celebrating one of our favourite botanical ingredients... organic cocoa butter.

While it's famous for making chocolate melt in your mouth, cocoa butter has long been treasured in natural skincare for the way it nourishes and protects the skin.

You'll find it throughout our handcrafted collection—from our cold process soaps and luxurious bath melts to our conditioning lip balms and solid lotion bars.

Why do we love it?

🤎 Rich in natural fatty acids to deeply nourish dry skin
🤎 Helps support the skin's natural moisture barrier
🤎 Leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and comforted
🤎 Adds a luxurious, creamy feel to every skincare ritual

And then there's its beautiful aroma...

Natural cocoa butter has a gentle, warm scent with delicate notes reminiscent of cocoa and dark chocolate. It's subtle rather than sweet, bringing a sense of comfort and indulgence that's entirely created by nature—no artificial fragrance required.

At Anam & Bláth, we choose organic cocoa butter not just because it's wonderful for your skin, but because it reflects everything we believe in: simple, honest botanicals that care for both body and being.

Happy National Chocolate Day... here's to one of nature's most beautiful ingredients. 🤎🌿
