The contrast says a lot about how differently daughters and sons can be treated. In Bihar’s Purnia, a family symbolically performed the last rites of their 18-year-old daughter after she chose an inter-caste marriage. At the same time, cases involving harassment of girls often expose another uncomfortable pattern: families can become fiercely protective when their sons are accused. Why is a daughter’s choice treated like betrayal, while a son’s harmful behavior is so often excused?

IN JAMUI, EVEN THE GIRL WAS QUESTIONED.
THAT’S HOW DEEP VICTIM-BLAMING RUNS.
The recent Jamui case in Bihar has reopened an uncomfortable conversation about how quickly society questions girls instead of questioning the behaviour directed at them.
On September 19, two Class 10 students were allegedly stopped and harassed in Jamui, Bihar. The girl was allegedly inappropriately touched while the boy was assaulted. Police later registered a case under POCSO and began action against the accused.
But beyond one case lies a much bigger problem: when something happens to a girl, why do questions so often begin with where she went, who she was with, or why she was there?
A girl’s freedom should never become an excuse for someone else’s alleged behaviour. ❤️🩹

A woman’s unusual career choice is often treated like a hobby until success makes it respectable. The same people who once questioned the path may later ask how their own children can do the same thing. Sometimes the dream was never unrealistic — people just needed proof before they respected it. Have you ever been told your career choice was “just timepass”?

A relationship cannot improve when one person keeps focusing on how you reacted while refusing to look at what caused that reaction. Accountability has to work both ways. Healthy love is not about making one partner carry all the blame — it is about both people being willing to examine their own behavior. Have you ever experienced this pattern?

When allegations of h@rassment emerge, asking why a girl was outside at night shifts attention away from the alleged actions being investigated. According to reports, Nandan Yadav’s mother defended her son after his arr€st and questioned the 17-year-old girl’s actions. Whatever the legal process ultimately establishes, one thing deserves a bigger conversation: a girl’s clothes, location or decision to go outside should never become an excuse to blame her for someone else’s alleged behaviour. Victim-blaming doesn’t create safer girls — accountability creates safer spaces. ❤️🩹

A woman giving birth is not making a decision about someone else’s s€x life — she is making a medical decision about her own body. A partner can share concerns and be part of the conversation, but the person going through pregnancy and childbirth ultimately has to consent to what happens to her body. Withholding intimacy because she chose the birth option she felt comfortable with raises a much bigger question: when does having an opinion turn into believing you’re entitled to control your partner’s body? 👀

Four alleged r@pe and s€xual ass@ult cases involving minors were reported across Delhi in around 10 days. Now, a dedicated “Pink Force” of trained women personnel has been proposed to patrol vulnerable locations across the capital. More visible policing and faster response could be important steps — but girls deserve a city where safety isn’t something they have to constantly plan their lives around. Safety should be a basic right, not a privilege. ❤️🩹

This generation of women is learning to choose herself without guilt. ❤️ She’s tolerating less, setting stronger boundaries, expecting respect, building her own independence, and refusing to stay silent just to make others comfortable. Being confident, outspoken, and independent doesn’t make a woman “difficult” — it means she finally understands her worth. Here’s to women who are no longer afraid to take up space, speak their minds, and walk away from anything that costs them their peace. ✨
