The Current Arms Trade Situation in India: A Satirical Take
The arms trade is often described in terms of sales, profits, targets, and government regulations. But what happens when dealers struggle to make money?
Here’s a tongue-in-cheek look at the situation through a set of fictional acronyms.
TRIGGER — Sales Start Falling
TRIGGER stands for Temporary Revenue Intervention Given Economic Reality.
You get this label when your sales begin to drop. It is essentially a warning that business is no longer performing as expected.
BULLET — Profits Hit Zero
BULLET means Business Under Low-Level Economic Turmoil.
This is the next warning stage: sales may still exist, but there is no profit left.
RIFLE — The “Relief” Program
RIFLE, or Relief Initiative For Low Earnings, is where you end up after being marked with one TRIGGER and two BULLETS.
In theory, it is designed to provide relief. In practice, it represents the point where the business needs serious intervention.
ARMS & SHELL — Financial Support
ARMS means Additional Revenue for Margins Struggling, while SHELL stands for Support for Hard-hit Equipment & Logistics Losses.
These represent financial handouts for dealers who are struggling—or have effectively gone bankrupt—with little expectation that they will suddenly return to healthy profits.
FIRE — Targets Go Up
And then there is FIRE: Financially Intensive Revenue Expectations.
This is reserved for the few dealers who are still managing to make sales. Instead of being allowed to breathe, they are handed increasingly ambitious sales targets.
The Punchline
The fictional distributor’s standard response to poor performance is simple:
“Don’t worry. The market will recover next quarter.”
But if you keep waiting for things to return to normal, the next thing coming down the pipeline may not be a financial recovery at all—it may be a government audit.
In Short
* TRIGGER: Your sales drop.
* BULLET: Your profits hit zero.
* RIFLE: You enter the relief program after one TRIGGER and two BULLETS.
* ARMS & SHELL: Financial support for struggling or bankrupt dealers.
* FIRE: Unrealistically high sales targets for those still making sales.

Cow Mentality vs Bison Mentality in the Arms Trade
There is a popular leadership lesson based on how cows and bison react to storms.
When a storm approaches, cows tend to turn away from it and run in the same direction. Since the storm is moving with them, they often remain in the storm for a longer period of time. This is known as Cow Mentality—avoiding challenges, delaying difficult decisions, and hoping problems will pass on their own.
Bison react differently. They turn towards the storm and move directly into it. By facing the storm head-on, they pass through it faster and reach clear skies sooner. This is known as Bison Mentality—accepting reality, confronting challenges, and taking decisive action even when circumstances are uncomfortable.
The changes in the arms trade over the last few years remind me of this concept.
When private manufacturers entered the handgun market in large numbers, the entire industry faced a storm. Margins came under pressure, competition increased, inventory costs went up, and demand became concentrated in a few product categories. Every retailer had to decide how to respond to this new reality.
The Cow Mentality in the arms trade is when dealers keep doing business exactly as they did in the past and hope the market will return to old conditions. They continue holding large inventories of slow-moving products, avoid making difficult decisions, and blame the market for every challenge. Like cows running ahead of a storm, they may feel they are avoiding the problem, but in reality they remain trapped in it for longer. Capital stays blocked, inventory ages, and profitability keeps shrinking.
The Bison Mentality in the arms trade is not about blindly pushing through a slowdown. It is about recognizing the storm before it fully arrives and taking practical steps to protect your business.
Smart dealers could see the changing market dynamics—the rise of private manufacturers, increasing competition, slowing demand in several product categories, and shrinking margins. Instead of holding on to large inventories and hoping conditions would improve, they focused on converting stock into cash while the market was still active.
Rather than allowing their capital to remain stuck in slow-moving inventory, they redeployed those funds into other investment avenues that could generate returns during the downturn. Their objective was simple: keep money working rather than letting it sit idle as dead stock on the shelves.
Just as bison move into a storm instead of running from it, these dealers faced market realities early and adapted their strategy accordingly. They understood that preserving liquidity and maintaining flexibility during a slowdown was often more important than chasing uncertain sales.

I think after UP and Delhi , Haryana is next in line in strictness on use of ammunition.
I think there is underline order from MHA to curb the misuse of ammunition and more states will fall in line soon.

Reality Check for New Licence Holders
Bhai, these days when a customer comes to buy from me, I don’t try to sell. I first give him the full reality.
I tell him clearly — there is no buyback. If you ever want to sell it, you will get less than 50% of the price, and even that depends on the market at that time.
Then I explain the practical side. You cannot fire it. And if you ever do, you must be ready to give a proper explanation. You cannot freely carry it around. You cannot take it outside Delhi — places like Noida and Gurgaon are practically extensions now, and rules get complicated. You cannot carry it into malls, cinema halls, restaurants, banquet halls, or most public places.
After that, I tell him something most people don’t realise. Once you have a licence, your personal behaviour also comes under the scanner. You cannot get into arguments, abuse someone, or even slap someone. If the police get involved in any minor issue, the licence holder is the first to be questioned and penalised.
By the end, many of them quietly say,
“I think I made a mistake by getting this licence.”

Justice is not an absolute truth; it is a human-made idea. And every idea of justice automatically creates an idea of injustice. As Anatole France rightly said, justice often exists to protect injustices that are already accepted by society.
What is called justice by one group is experienced as injustice by another. Caste-based reservation feels fair to those who benefit from it, but unfair to those who lose opportunities. Positive discrimination is justified for the receiver and resented by the excluded. Inherited wealth looks perfectly natural to the rich and deeply unfair to the poor. Even equality is not universally fair—average people welcome it, while exceptional individuals see it as a punishment for excellence.
The uncomfortable truth is this: everyone defines justice in a way that suits their own interests. People rarely support “justice” out of principle; they support what benefits them. What you call injustice may feel completely justified to the person doing it.
An employer feels justified in firing a non-performing employee; workers and unions disagree. Parents feel justified in disciplining children; children and activists may not. A man may feel justified in ending a loveless marriage; others may see it as cruelty.
If you emotionally react to every perceived injustice, you will exhaust yourself. The world runs on competing interests, not moral purity. Every attempt to correct one injustice usually creates another.
Before raising your voice, pause and look at the issue from all sides. Speak up only in rare cases where you can truly help and make a real difference.

India’s Legal Arms Trade Wasn’t Regulated. It Was Sabotaged.
The Indian state did not reform the legal arms system. It sabotaged it—slowly, deliberately, and cowardly. No formal ban. No parliamentary honesty. Just an endless chain of restrictions designed to ensure that lawful citizens give up out of exhaustion.
This was not about public safety. This was about control.
One by one, states were neutralised. Rajasthan fell first, then Madhya Pradesh. Fresh licences were strangled through “policy directions” that exist nowhere in statute. District Magistrates stopped acting as authorities and started acting as executioners, with rejection as the default setting.
Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana were already dead zones. New licences there are not scrutinised—they are pre-decided. South India was turned into a licensing graveyard, where the government disarmed entire populations without ever declaring it openly.
The Himachal Pradesh Home Department’s latest order finally drops the mask. By removing issuance powers at the DM level, the state has effectively announced a ban without using the word. This is governance by deceit.
And while legal trade was crushed, illegal arms exploded. Desi kattas flood the streets. Smugglers operate freely. Criminals don’t fill forms, attend police inquiries, or wait for “threat assessments.” Only honest citizens do.
The result is obscene:
A criminal with an illegal weapon faces less daily harassment than a licensed dealer or citizen trying to renew a permit.
Today, Punjab is the last functional market standing—not because it is unsafe, but because political reality still restrains bureaucratic arrogance. How long that lasts is anyone’s guess.
Let’s be honest: this policy didn’t reduce violence. It redefined obedience. A disarmed citizen is easier to manage, easier to intimidate, and easier to ignore.
This was not regulation.
This was not reform.
This was quiet civilian disarmament, carried out without the courage to admit it.
If you want, I can push it further into a constitutional violation argument, bureaucratic hypocrisy expose, or industry-killer manifesto.
