Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in Below 10 Years: Causes
Recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) in children is defined as two or more UTIs within six months or three or more within one year. It is a common pediatric problem and requires careful evaluation because repeated infections can damage the kidneys and lead to high blood pressure or chronic kidney disease if left untreated.
The most common cause is Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), a condition in which urine flows backward from the bladder into the ureters and kidneys, allowing bacteria to reach the kidneys. Another important cause is congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract, such as blockage at the junction of the kidney and ureter, narrowing of the urethra, or duplicated urinary collecting systems.
Bladder and bowel dysfunction is another major contributor. Children who habitually hold urine for long periods, do not empty the bladder completely, or suffer from chronic constipation are at increased risk because stagnant urine encourages bacterial growth.
Poor toilet hygiene, especially in young girls, can allow bacteria from the a**l region to enter the urinary tract. Girls are generally more susceptible due to their shorter urethra. In uncircumcised infant boys, bacterial colonization beneath the fo****in may also increase the risk during early childhood.
Urinary stones, foreign bodies, neurogenic bladder due to spinal disorders, diabetes, and weakened immunity are less common but important causes. Inadequate fluid intake and infrequent urination also increase the likelihood of recurrent infections.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis. It is a degenerative joint disease in which the cartilage covering the ends of bones gradually wears away, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced joint movement. It commonly affects the knees, hips, spine, hands, and feet.
Causes and Risk Factors
Ageing: Risk increases with advancing age.
Obesity: Excess body weight increases stress on weight-bearing joints.
Joint injury: Previous fractures, ligament injuries, or repeated trauma.
Overuse: Repetitive movements or heavy physical work.
Genetic factors: Family history may increase susceptibility.
Joint deformities: Congenital abnormalities or malalignment.
Other diseases: Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or metabolic disorders.
Symptoms
Joint pain, especially during or after activity.
Stiffness, particularly after rest or in the morning.
Swelling around the joint.
Reduced range of motion.
Grating or crackling sensation during movement.
Bony enlargements in finger joints.
Treatment
1. Lifestyle Measures
Weight reduction in overweight individuals.
Regular exercise: Walking, swimming, cycling, and stretching.
Physiotherapy to strengthen muscles around affected joints.
Avoid prolonged sitting and excessive strain on joints.
2. Medications
Simple pain relievers such as Paracetamol.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Ibuprofen or Naproxen, under medical supervision.
Topical pain-relieving gels or creams.
In selected cases, injections of corticosteroids into the joint.
3. Supportive Measures
Use of knee braces, walking sticks, or appropriate footwear.
Heat or cold therapy for symptom relief.
4. Surgical Treatment
If pain is severe and daily activities are markedly affected despite conservative treatment, joint replacement surgery (such as knee or hip replacement) may be considered.
Early diagnosis, regular exercise, weight control, and maintaining an active lifestyle can significantly slow progression and improve quality of lif

of Infertility in Human Beings: Doctor's Viewpoint
Infertility is defined as the inability of a couple to achieve pregnancy after one year of regular, unprotected sexual in*******se. It affects both men and women and is a common medical problem worldwide. In approximately one-third of cases, the cause lies primarily in the woman, one-third in the man, and the remaining cases involve both partners or unexplained factors.
In women, the most common causes include ovulation disorders, such as Polycystic O***y Syndrome, where eggs are not released regularly. Damage or blockage of the fallopian tubes due to pelvic infections, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, or previous surgeries can prevent the s***m and egg from meeting. Conditions such as Endometriosis, uterine fibroids, congenital abnormalities of the uterus, and advancing age can also reduce fertility. Female fertility declines significantly after the age of 35 years.
In men, infertility may result from a low s***m count, poor s***m motility, abnormal s***m shape, hormonal disorders, varicocele (enlarged veins around the te**is), infections, undescended te**es, genetic conditions, or obstruction of the s***m ducts. Smoking, excessive alcohol intake, drug abuse, obesity, exposure to toxins, and certain medications can adversely affect s***m production and quality.
Lifestyle factors play an important role in both sexes. Stress, obesity, poor nutrition, lack of exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption, environmental pollutants, and exposure to excessive heat or radiation may contribute to infertility.
In some couples, despite thorough evaluation, no specific cause is identified; this is known as unexplained infertility.
Fortunately, many causes of infertility are treatable. Early medical evaluation, healthy lifestyle habits, timely treatment of infections, and appropriate fertility therapies can significantly improve the chances of conception. Couples facing infertility should seek professional medical advice rather than relying on myths or unproven remedies, as early diagnosis often leads to better outcomes.

Starting solid food in children below 1 year(weaning) age

How to Reduce the Risk of Birth Defects in Babies: A Doctor's Opinion
Birth defects are structural or functional abnormalities present at birth. While not all birth defects can be prevented, many risks can be significantly reduced through proper planning and prenatal care.
Before Pregnancy
Take Folic Acid: Women planning pregnancy should take 400–800 micrograms of folic acid daily at least one month before conception and during early pregnancy. This greatly reduces the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida.
Control Chronic Diseases: Conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, and epilepsy should be well controlled before conception.
Genetic Counseling: Couples with a family history of inherited disorders, recurrent miscarriages, or previous children with birth defects should seek genetic counseling.
Avoid Harmful Substances: Stop smoking, alcohol consumption, recreational drugs, and unnecessary medications before and during pregnancy.
During Pregnancy
Regular Antenatal Check-ups: Early registration and routine prenatal visits help detect problems and monitor fetal development.
Balanced Nutrition: Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, proteins, calcium, iron, iodine, and vitamins.
Avoid Infections: Follow good hygiene practices and avoid exposure to infections such as rubella, toxoplasmosis, and certain viral illnesses. Recommended vaccinations should be taken before or during pregnancy as advised.
Avoid Environmental Hazards: Limit exposure to radiation, pesticides, toxic chemicals, and heavy metals.
Use Medicines Carefully: Never take medicines, herbal preparations, or supplements without consulting a doctor.
Screening and Early Detection
Modern prenatal screening and ultrasound examinations can identify many fetal abnormalities early, allowing timely medical advice and management.
Conclusion
The best way to reduce birth defects is through pre-pregnancy planning, folic acid supplementation, healthy lifestyle choices, proper nutrition, control of maternal illnesses, and regular prenatal care. Although no method can guarantee a completely defect-free baby, these measures substantially improve the chances of delivering a healthy child. Always consult an obstetrician and paediatric surgeon before and during pregnancy for individualized guidance.
