FUNGUO CBO at the Migori Farmers' Open Day: Empowering Youth in Agribusiness
As Director of FUNGUO CBO, I had the privilege of representing our organization at the 2nd Annual Migori Farmers' Open Day & Exhibition, held at Rongo Showground under the theme "Transforming Agriculture through Innovation, Climate-Smart Technologies and Sustainable Value Chains for Enhanced Food Security and Prosperity." 🌾
In collaboration with Practical Action, our participation included:
✅ Community Sensitization — Reached over 1,000 farmers and community members on agribusiness principles, value addition, and market access
✅ Value Chain Showcase — Demonstrated how farmers can move from raw produce to processed, market-ready products
✅ Climate-Smart Innovation — Introduced new agricultural technologies to build resilience ahead of the short rains
✅ Market Linkages — Connected farmers and youth agripreneurs with financial institutions, input suppliers, and buyers
✅ Knowledge Exchange — Engaged with government agencies, research institutions, and processors to strengthen partnerships
This exhibition reaffirmed why we do this work — bringing youth, farmers, and innovators together to drive agricultural transformation in Migori County. 💪

We are excited to welcome young women for a transformative training on Wednesday, 15th July 2026.

📍 Venue: Kenya Red Cross – Suna East Office
🕘 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (Maximum of two hours)

The training will focus on practical knowledge and skills in:

- 🌾 Agribusiness
- 🗳️ Civic Education
- 💰 Financial Literacy
- ⚖️ Gender and Social Inclusion
- 🤝 Welfare
- 🏦 SACCO and Savings

Economic empowerment is one of the most effective ways to address many of the challenges facing young people today. By engaging in productive economic activities, young people can reduce vulnerability to the triple threats (HIV, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence), improve their mental well-being, avoid risky behaviours, and build a future of dignity and independence. We therefore encourage every young person to embrace opportunities that promote self-reliance, resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.

Important: Transport reimbursement will be signed for during the training. Participants are advised to make their own transport arrangements to and from the venue. Refreshments will be served during the session.

For the safety of all participants, trained First Aiders will be on standby throughout the event to respond to any emergencies. Participants will also receive basic first aid awareness, equipping them with simple life-saving skills that can make a difference in emergency situations.

Registration is still ongoing! We had initially planned for 60 participants, but the overwhelming interest has already grown to over 100 young people.

FUNGUO Community Based Organization (FUNGUO CBO) was honored to join the National Government, County Government of Migori, development partners, stakeholders, and community members in commemorating World Environment Day at Lichota Show Ground.

The event brought together diverse actors committed to environmental conservation and sustainable development, highlighting the importance of collective action in addressing climate change, restoring ecosystems, and protecting our natural resources.
