Here’s why your first session can feel extra painful

2/8 — The hair is usually thicker
When you’ve been shaving or trimming for a while, the hair can be quite coarse and strong.

Wax removes the hair from the root, so that first removal can feel intense.

3/8 — Your skin isn’t used to it yet
Your skin is experiencing waxing for the first time, so it may feel more sensitive.

With regular waxing, your skin becomes more accustomed to the process.

4/8 — You may have more hair growing at once
Your first wax can involve removing a lot of hair at once

5/8 — So how do you make your wax easier?

✨ Let the hair grow to a good waxing length
✨ Avoid shaving immediately before your appointment
✨ Gently exfoliate a day or two before
✨ Come with clean, dry skin
✨ Avoid heavy lotions or oils before your appointment

6/8 — And please don’t come scared

Tensing your entire body because you’re anticipating the pain can make the experience feel worse.

WAXING ADVICE YOU SHOULDN’T IGNORE

❌Don’t shave between appointments
Stay consistent and allow the hair to grow back for your next wax

❌Don’t wax over irritated or damaged skin. Sunburn, cuts, rashes and broken skin need time to heal.

❌Exfoliate, BUT not immediately before or after waxing, Give your skin time to settle, then after 4-5 days gently exfoliate to help prevent ingrown hairs & prepare skin for new hair

✨ Follow your aftercare
•Avoid heat, excessive sweating, swimming and friction for the first 24 hours

•Don’t pick at ingrown hairs. Picking can cause irritation, dark marks and infection

•Tell your waxer about anything that may affect your skin. Certain skincare products and medications can make skin more sensitive to waxing

•Consistency matters
•Regular waxing helps you work with your hair growth cycle and can lead to finer, softer regrowth over time

WHAT’S THE PERFECT HAIR LENGTH FOR WAXING?

For the wax to properly grip the hair, aim for around ¼ inch (6 mm) of growth, roughly the length of a grain of rice

✨ Too short? The wax may not be able to grip the hair properly

✨ Too long? The wax can pull more and make the experience unnecessarily uncomfortable, your waxer may trim it before starting(though not neccesarry)

A good rule of thumb: avoid shaving for about 2–3 weeks before your appointment, depending on how quickly your hair grows

And please… don’t panic about the length!
Your waxer will guide you and trim if necessary
