A TRIBUTE TO AGWAMBO – RAILA AMOLO ODINGA
The People’s Voice, The Nation’s Conscience
Today, Kenya bows its head, not in defeat, but in gratitude.
For we have walked with a man who refused to walk away.
A son of Jaramogi, a child of the struggle, a statesman carved from the granite of conviction: Raila Amolo Odinga, fondly known as Agwambo, Tinga, Baba and Jakom.
From the quiet hills of Maseno to the fiery rallies of independence and democracy, Agwambo’s life was a long march toward justice. He bore the scars of detention, exile and betrayal, yet his spirit remained unbroken. In him, we saw the audacity of hope clothed in humility; the resilience of a nation refusing to be silenced.
The Liberator and Bridge Builder
He stood when standing was costly.
He spoke when silence was safe.
He fought not for power, but for principle, for the right of every Kenyan to speak, to choose, to dream.
Through the dark nights of detention, through the long corridors of opposition politics, through the storm of post-election pain, Raila’s voice rang out calling us back to the higher ground of unity, reform and freedom.
As Prime Minister, he shepherded a fragile nation toward reconciliation. He championed devolution; the heartbeat of our Constitution. He dreamt of a Kenya where no child would be forgotten, where opportunity would be the birthright of all, not the privilege of a few.
The Man Behind the Legend
Beyond the podiums and politics was a man of laughter and warmth.
A family man devoted to Ida, a father who inspired, a friend who listened, a patriot who loved deeply. His humour, his wit, his unshakable optimism; these were the fires that kept him young long after the years had turned.
To his supporters, he was Baba ;the father of the movement.
To his rivals, he was a worthy adversary.
To history, he will remain a reformer whose courage reshaped a nation’s destiny.
The Legacy Lives On
Agwambo has not died; he has merely crossed into legend.
His footsteps echo in every university square where students debate courageously, in every county where devolution thrives, in every citizen who believes Kenya can still rise.
He leaves us not in darkness, but in dawn; a dawn he helped to build with sweat, tears and unyielding faith.
May his name forever be spoken with honour;
may his dream forever be pursued with courage;
may his life remind us that love of country is the highest calling.
Fare thee well, Agwambo, son of the soil.
Your race is run, your torch still burns.
Kenya remembers. Africa salutes. The world bows in respect.*
