Giraffe Manor Hotel & Shop started life in 1932 as a private residence, built in the style of a Scottish hunting lodge - all ivy-clad stone walls and sprawling gardens.

It was Betty Leslie-Melville who turned it into what it is today, rescuing the herd of endangered Nubian giraffes (then known as Rothschild’s giraffes) and opening the manor’s doors to guests in the 1970s.

That conservation thread runs right through the place - the manor has long been part of  African Fund for Endangered Wildlife - Giraffe Centre’s  breeding programme that’s helped grow Nubian giraffe numbers back up in the wild.

Twelve rooms span the historic house and the newer Garden Manor, but the real draw needs no introduction - the resident herd wandering over for breakfast and afternoon tea, long necks poking through the windows in hope of a treat, before heading back to their forest sanctuary for the night.

It’s the kind of morning that sounds too good to be true until you’re actually there with a giraffe’s head in your pancakes.

No trending audio here - just the sound of soap being made in small batches by hand by our incredible team.

Every bar starts with oils poured by hand, not metered by machine. We let each batch cure for weeks, not hours, so the natural glycerin stays in the bar instead of being stripped out.

It’s slower. It’s louder in some places and quieter in others.

It’s exactly how we’ve always done it, right here near the foothills of Mt Kenya.

New look, who’s this?✨We excited to finally share our new labels with you!

Look around Kenya and you’ll find colour everywhere - the red earth, the dark green palms, the gold of the savanna grass. We felt it was time to bring these beautiful hues home.

All our products remain unchanged, although you will now find our new Palmarosa & Lavender range called Saba - our tribute to the ‘wind of lovers’ on the Arabian peninsula.

Of course, when we decided to make this change we only wanted to do it if we could do it sustainably, so while our core range has changed, our other products will change in due course.

When one of our customers told us our soap was “nature in a bar” we couldn’t have been more happy, mission accomplished!

It’s been more than 20 years that we’ve been making soap by hand and it still brings us joy when we hear people enjoying what we do.

July means harvest time 🌿on our farm where we gather and distill the botanicals we grow.

Here’s a sneak peek behind the scenes of how we extract the essential oils that make your skin smell so nice.

Once our botanicals are cut we fill them into our wood -fired still where steam works its way through the plants releasing their essential oils.

The extracted essential oils than sit for a minimum of 6 months to mature ready to be used in our formulations.
