The Growing Popularity of Perfume Oils
(*Note: Perfume Oils, Body Oils, Fragrance Oils and Cologne Oils all refer to the same product.)
Even in good times, purchasing perfumes or colognes is sometimes considered a bad purchase. They can be overpriced, diluted, and overbearing. On the other hand, perfume oils can also be the best purchase you make. These oils contain no alcohol (perfumes and colognes have at least eighty to ninety percent alcohol content), are reasonably priced, and are not overbearing. These perfumes are a smart buy, because they do not contain alcohol, fillers and over-hyped packaging.
Here is an interesting tidbit of information: when a perfume or cologne is created, the name and the packaging are trademarked but the scent is not. This is a Supreme Court decision- the scent belongs to nature, not to the manufacturer. As long as a disclaimer is presented explaining that the product is not the original perfume or cologne, it is one hundred percent legal to copy a scent. So anyone can copy the scent, but the key is using the right instruments and raw materials (essential oils) to create quality perfume oil. Unfortunately, from the Seventies to the present, cheap imitations and replicas have given the public a negative impression when comparing these scents to the originals.
Yet “Grade A” perfumes are different. These “Grade A” perfumes and colognes are created from perfume oils, so they not only smell exactly like the originals but are actually better. They are becoming the hottest alternative to perfumes and colognes- the public has caught on and the demand is growing. Perfume oils are now a mainstream product. For about 1/20 of the price, consumers are a buying a product that is purer, longer-lasting and not overbearing. Consumers that purchase perfume oils rarely buy perfumes and colognes again. Since perfume oils are reasonably priced, it is not unusual for someone to have between ten and thirty perfume oils in their collection, from hard-to-find classics and discontinued scents, to recent releases. An additional advantage of perfume oils is that those consumers that are allergic to perfumes and colognes are rarely allergic to perfume oils. People may be allergic to perfumes and colognes due to the high content of alcohol found in the product.
Here is a comparison chart that will illustrate the differences between perfumes and perfume oils:

Differences Between Perfume And Perfume Oils
The history of perfume oils dates back to ancient Egypt when these fine scented oils were presented to royalty as gifts. In modern times, however, when the word "perfume" is said, most people think of department store fragrances, which consist mainly of the concentrated oil and alcohol solution. Nevertheless, as more and more people are finding out about them, perfume oils are experiencing great popularity. Here are some interesting facts about perfume oils:
1) Strength of smell - Perfume oils are highly concentrated and up to ten times more concentrated than department store perfumes. This quality allows oils to last longer than their eau de perfume counterparts.
2) Alcohol - Perfumes have alcohol in them, which creates different smell effects. Most body oils use carrier oils like jojoba or grapeseed oil in place of alcohol. In some fragrances, the smell can change as the alcohol evaporates different scent notes through time. With oils, the scent is more constant.
3) Price - A noticeable difference between perfumes and perfume oils is price. Perfumes have a very high markup and great profit margins, which is perhaps why many celebrities have embarked on the trend of creating their own perfumes and colognes. Perfume oils can be sold very cheaply, or even more expensively than the perfumes, depending on how they are positioned in the market.
4) Body chemistry - Just because a perfume or cologne smells good on you, doesn't mean that the oil version will. Perfumes only have a small percentage of oil, so they are quite different than pure body oils. This interaction between the fragrance and your body may produce a different scent perception altogether.
5) Packaging - Clearly, department store perfumes are very nicely packaged and thus make great gifts for friends and family. Many perfume oils are sold in less attractive containers, which is part of the reason for their lower price.
6) Uses - Perfumes are only intended for use on the body, but perfume oils can be used to create a variety of scented products, like soap, candles, bath oils, air fresheners, and many other types of scented products. Be aware that there are different types of fragrance oils and that pure uncut oils are not safe for use on the skin.
In summary, whether you choose to use perfume oils or not will depend on the factors above. Try out a small sample first and who knows, you might just discover a delightful new product to add to your personal inventory.

4 Reasons Why You Should Try Perfume Oils
perfume oil
We love all kinds of perfume, which is why we think it’s high time to call attention to one of our favorite variations—the oil fragrance. Roll-on perfume oils are less popular than standard spray-on perfumes, but they’re perfect for those among us who don’t always feel like walking around in a cloud of what’s clearly an identifiable perfume. If you’re the type of girl who loved the Chloé perfume before you started smelling it on every woman walking down the street, then a more exotic oil fragrance may just be for you.
They last longer.
The actual perfume elements and extracts in oil fragrances are far more concentrated than those in standard alcohol-based eau de toilettes and perfumes, which contain only a small amount of true fragrance diluted with alcohol and other fillers. Oils tend to “stick” to the skin and linger, whereas many standard perfumes are actually better applied to clothing for longer wear as fabrics give them something to cling to.
They’re less likely to be irritating on skin.
It goes without saying that the alcohol and other dehydrating chemicals in most perfumes can be irritating and drying to the skin. Those with dry skin often have a hard time wearing scent because of how quickly it dries and dissipates. Oils, on the other hand, are moisturizing, which not only helps them to last longer but also makes them suitable for any skin type.
They’re more bang for your buck.
Oil fragrances are typically packaged as rollerballs, which you then apply to warm areas like your wrists, inside of your elbow, behind your ears, and the back of your neck (Liv Tyler suggests applying it inside your belly button!). You can apply as much or as a little of the scent as you want, allowing for total control. Standard alcohol-based perfumes in spray bottles often feel like they’re being wasted, especially when you’re spraying it into the air and walking through the resulting mist. A cheap alcohol-based perfume almost always smells like just that, but you can pick up a great-smelling one-note oil fragrance like sandalwood or musk at health food stores for under $10.
They’re less overpowering.
It’s true that the higher concentration in oil fragrances often makes them smell stronger and richer, but they’re less likely than alcohol-based perfumes to leave behind a sillage or trail. If you’re sensitive to overbearing fragrance that feel like you’re walking around in a cloud of scent, oils are the perfect solution. They stay close to the skin and radiate outward thanks to the warmth of your pulse points, but you’ll feel like you’re wearing a scent rather than having a scent wear you.
