In a world overflowing with waste and limited resources, teaching students about the circular economy is more important than ever now.

Recently, I’ve been sharing soapmaking from used cooking oil with schools, teaching students to make soaps out of used cooking oil, and it's more than just a fun DIY activity. It’s a hands-on way to show students how waste can be transformed into something useful again.

Used cooking oil is one of the most common household wastes, and when dumped down drains or into the environment, it causes pollution. But when we upcycle it into soap, we:

-Prevent clogged drains and waterway pollution

-Teach chemistry, sustainability, and creativity – all in one activity!

Because young minds are powerful changemakers. When students learn about sustainable practices early:

-They grow up making better choices

-They influence their families and communities

-They become part of a generation that puts planet over profit.

Let’s raise eco-conscious leaders by teaching them the value of waste as a resource, one soao bar at the time. The earth is counting on them and us too!

This afternoon, we came together with the vibrant community of Cherating to create something beautiful: eco-friendly candles made using used cooking oil.

Not only did we share the basic art of candle-making, but we also emphasized sustainability by using locally-sourced, natural materials like beeswax, seashells and dried botanicals .This hands-on experience highlighted the importance of reducing waste, supporting local economies, and embracing sustainable practices.
