The Unending Tragedy in Benue: A Call to Action
As I write this, my heart heavy with grief and concern, the images of innocent lives lost to senseless violence haunt me. Benue State, once known for its peaceful coexistence, has become a battleground where herdsmen wreak havoc, leaving death and destruction in their wake. The recent attacks in Gwer West and Apa Local Government Areas, which claimed 33 lives, are a stark reminder of the security crisis that has plagued our state for far too long.
The governor's response, while well-intentioned, has been woefully inadequate. Urging residents to remain vigilant and volunteer information to security agencies is a drop in the ocean. The state's inability to protect its citizens is a dereliction of duty, and it's time for more drastic measures. The governor must prioritize the safety of Benue's people and work with the federal government to deploy adequate security personnel to hotspots.
The Federal Government's Role
The Nigerian government has a constitutional responsibility to protect its citizens. However, its response to the Benue crisis has been lacklustre. The government's inaction has emboldened herdsmen, who now operate with impunity, terrorizing communities, and claiming lives. It's imperative that the federal government takes immediate action to address this security challenge.
A Call to Unity
As sons and daughters of Benue State, we must unite against this common enemy. We can not afford to be divided in the face of such adversity. Prominent individuals, community leaders, and local government officials must come together to demand action from our leaders. We must also support our security agencies with intelligence and resources to tackle this menace effectively.
Demands for Action
Deployment of Adequate Security Personnel*: The federal government must deploy sufficient security personnel to Benue State to protect its citizens and prevent further attacks.

*Beyond Guilt and Fear: Breaking Free from Manipulation*
Manipulation has become a pervasive trait in many aspects of our society, from family dynamics to politics and workplaces. It's often disguised as respect, tradition, or cultural norms, making it challenging to recognize and address. In this article, we'll explore the subtle ways manipulation manifests in our lives, its impact, and why it's essential to unlearn this harmful norm.
*The Normalization of Manipulation*
Manipulation is often used to influence others and get what we want. However, when it becomes a normalized behavior, it can lead to toxic relationships, emotional distress, and a lack of genuine connections. In Nigerian society, manipulation can be seen in various forms, such as:
*Family dynamics*: Using guilt-tripping phrases like "After all I've done for you" to control family members.
*Workplaces*: Exploiting power dynamics to manipulate colleagues or subordinates.
*Friendships*: Using emotional blackmail to get what we want from friends.
*The Impact of Manipulation*
Manipulation can have severe consequences, including:
*Eroding trust*: Damaging relationships and making it difficult to build genuine connections.
*Stifling growth*: Forcing individuals to prioritize others' expectations over their own needs and desires.
*Undermining self-esteem*: Making people doubt their own worth and judgment.
*Recognizing Manipulation*
To unlearn manipulation, it's essential to recognize its subtle forms. Some common manipulative tactics include:
*Guilt-tripping*: Using phrases that evoke feelings of guilt or obligation.
*Emotional blackmail*: Threatening to end a relationship or using emotional manipulation to get what we want.
*Gaslighting*: Making someone question their own judgment or sanity.
*Unlearning Manipulation*
To create a healthier and more honest society, it's essential to unlearn manipulation and cultivate emotional awareness. This involves:

*Uncovering the Truth Behind History's Narrative*
History, as we know it, is often presented as a factual account of past events. However, the question remains: Is history fact, or is it power dressed as truth? The narrative of history has long been shaped by those in positions of power, leaving us to wonder if we're reading truth or a carefully crafted version of events.
The phrase "history is written by the victors" suggests that the narrative of past events is often dictated by those who emerged triumphant. This raises questions about the accuracy and fairness of historical accounts. Were the experiences and perspectives of marginalized groups erased or distorted? Did colonialism bring progress, or was it a carefully controlled narrative designed to justify exploitation and domination?
In today's world, we're increasingly aware of how media can twist events to suit particular agendas. This makes us wonder what was hidden or distorted in historical accounts. Who decides what gets remembered and what's lost to the annals of time? How many lies lie buried in official records, waiting to be uncovered?
Despite these challenges, it's essential to question, dig deeper, and challenge the past. By doing so, we can work towards a more nuanced understanding of history, one that acknowledges the complexities and diverse perspectives that shape our understanding of the world.
*The Importance of Critical Examination*
To truly understand history, we must critically examine the sources and narratives that have been passed down to us. This involves:
- *Challenging dominant narratives*: We must be willing to question the accounts that have been presented as fact and seek out alternative perspectives.
- *Seeking diverse sources*: By consulting a wide range of sources, including those from marginalized groups, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding of historical events.
- *Acknowledging biases*: We must recognize that all historical accounts are shaped by the biases a

*The Uncomfortable Truth About Self-Love*
A silent war rages among many young people aged 18 to 27 - the war of low self-esteem. This struggle manifests in their reactions when others speak highly of themselves. Self-love triggers them because it's unfamiliar to their own experiences. They feel offended when someone confidently praises themselves or sets boundaries, often labeling it as pride, arrogance, or "doing too much."
The reason behind this reaction is rooted in their own struggles with self-worth. Many have been conditioned to downplay their achievements, remain quiet, and doubt their value. As a result, when someone boldly expresses confidence, it serves as a painful reminder of what they haven't yet achieved.
It's essential to recognize that their negative reactions often stem from their own wounds, not yours. People struggle to celebrate what they secretly envy or don't understand. Therefore, it's crucial to love yourself unapologetically and speak boldly about your accomplishments. Your confidence isn't the problem; their unresolved issues are.
By embracing your self-worth and expressing yourself authentically, you're not only healing but also showcasing what wholeness looks like. Continue to prioritize your self-love and confidence, even if others may not fully understand or appreciate it.
