A child is supposed to be protected.
A child is supposed to feel safe.

This is a child’s life.
And as parents, guardians and family members, we need to have an uncomfortable conversation about who we allow access to our children.
We often tell children, “Don't talk to strangers.”
But the truth is that danger does not always look like a strangerSometimes, it can be someone the family knows.
Someone who visits the house.
A neighbour.
A relative.
A family friend.
A house help.
Or even another young person.
Knowing someone for years does not automatically make them safe.
Being related to someone does not automatically make them trustworthy.
And trusting someone with your child should never mean completely switching off your attention.
Parents, please pay attention.
Teach your children about body safety in an age-appropriate way.
Teach them that their bodies belong to them.Teach them that they can speak to you when something makes them uncomfortable.
Teach them that they should never feel forced to keep a secret about something that happened to them.
And most importantly, create an environment where your child knows:
“If anything ever happens to you, you can tell me. I will listen to you. I will believe you. I will help you.”
Don't shame children for speaking.
Don't immediately dismiss what they say because “that person could never do such a thing.”
Don't protect an adult's reputation at the expense of a child's safety.Listen.
Pay attention.
Ask questions.
Take concerns seriously.
Protect the child.
