Congratulations Pharm!πŸ™Œ

Pharm. (Dr.) Henry who graduated as the Best Graduating Student with a CGPA of 4.97 from the Faculty of Pharmacy University of Benin speaks to Pharmacy My Profession about his academic feat.

1. Can you tell us about yourself?

My name is Henry Ogorchukwu Abanum. I'm a Pharmacist. I hail from Ukwuani local government area in Delta State, Nigeria.

2. Did you experience difficulties gaining admission into the University?

No.
But it was a bit difficult getting into pharmacy school in Uniben. I was previously studying Soil Science and Land Management in the Faculty of Agriculture (Uniben), before I opted for an inter faculty transfer to Faculty of Pharmacy. And as God will have it, it was successful.

3. What inspired you to choose Pharmacy as a course of study?

I have always wanted to study pharmacy since my secondary school days. I saw pharmacy as a course I can actually cope with. This is due to my affinity and high appreciation of the scope of Human Biology and Chemistry. So, this prompted my further research about the profession. And with proper mentorship and inspiration from my senior colleagues in the profession, I was able to find purpose and carve out a path for myself in the profession.

4. When did you eventually start having first-class results?

I started having first-class results right from my 100 level days. Both while I was in the Faculty of Agriculture, till I transferred to and Graduated from Pharmacy School.

5. What influenced your drive for excellence in your academic work?

I believe in the general saying that "what is worth doing, is worth doing well". Aside academics, I always try to put in my best in all I do. By God's grace I have always excelled academically right from my primary school days, so academic excellence is something I always strive to achieve irrespective of the situation, provided I'm healthy. This has over the years influenced my mindset and quest for greater academic performance and results.

6. What was your study pattern?

Okay. I believe this question is as regards the usual preparation for the university's semesters examinations.
Uhhmm!! I won't really say I had a study pattern. I usually flow with the "tide". I study when it is most convenient for me and at my own pace.
I put in much more effort as series of test and examinations approaches. My general idea is to not pile up academic workload and then having much to cover during examinations. I believe in taking it in bits as it comes and appreciating it till the D-day comes.

7. It is generally believed that success comes with hard work. Where there things you had to sacrifice to stay on track?

True. Great success comes with hard work and sacrifice. Nothing can be achieved if nothing is given. I had to put in my time and effort. I thrived to be disciplined and committed to the task in order to be consistent or staying on track.

8. What are your aspirations as a Young Pharmacist?

My aspiration as a young Pharmacist is to become a self motivated Industrial Pharmacist, while still having a satisfactory knowledge in other aspects of Pharmacy practice.

9. What advice will you give to students who desire to perform excellently well in their academics?

My advice generally are:
To put in your best in all you do and expect great success in return. Set out precise goals, plan strategically in achieving these goals, (depending on what works best for you). Be disciplined and committed to the plan. And finally, thrive to be consistent with the good work.
