OMALA LGA CHAIRMAN BANS SALE OF LOCALLY BREWED AND SACHET ALCOHOLIC DRINKS

The Executive Chairman of Omala Local Government Area, Hon. Edibo Peter Ameh Mark, has announced an immediate ban on the sale and distribution of locally brewed alcoholic beverages, popularly known as Ogogoro, as well as all sachet-packaged alcoholic drinks within the Local Government Area.

The ban affects various sachet alcoholic products, including: Action Bitters, Chelsea, Igboya, Night Charger, and other similar alcoholic bitters packaged in sachets.

According to the Chairman, the decision was taken in the interest of public health, safety, and the overall well-being of the people of Omala LGA. He expressed concern over the increasing consumption of these products, particularly among young people, noting that the abuse of such substances has become a major social and health challenge, depriving many youths of their productivity and potential.

Hon. Edibo stated that the action is in line with existing national regulations and efforts aimed at curbing the harmful effects of excessive alcohol consumption. He emphasized that the health and future of the people of Omala remain a top priority of his administration.

The Chairman further warned that individuals or businesses found violating the directive would face legal consequences in accordance with the law. Relevant authorities and security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance and enforcement of the ban across the Local Government Area.

Hon. Edibo reiterated his administration's commitment to promoting a healthy, productive, and responsible society and called on community leaders, stakeholders, and residents to support the initiative for the collective good of Omala LGA.
