Recent online revelations have triggered widespread reactions after alleged past social media activity linked to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, resurfaced.

Screenshots circulating on social media appear to show a 2022 post from an account bearing the chairman’s name, in which support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—then a presidential candidate—was expressed during the build-up to the 2023 general elections. The post, which reads “Victory is sure,” has raised questions among observers regarding the perceived neutrality of the electoral body’s leadership.

Further reports indicate that the account in question was later modified, with changes made to the profile details and privacy settings shortly after the content began gaining attention online.

The development has sparked debate across various platforms, with some commentators expressing concern over the implications for public trust in the electoral process. Critics argue that any indication of political alignment by an electoral umpire could undermine confidence in the institution’s independence.
