THE CATHOLIC CHURCH: WHERE DIVERSITY DOESN’T DESTROY UNITY!

These are Catholic priests, and I am one of them, yet we come from different cultures, families, backgrounds and experiences—but we can still stand together to celebrate the rich Igbo tradition of Iri Ji, a cultural tradition that can be embraced without contradicting the faith.
If you think ethnic, political and cultural differences must divide people, then look at the Catholic Church, because few institutions demonstrate unity in genuine diversity as visibly.
At the altar and in the pews, you can find people from different ethnic groups, political persuasions, generations and social backgrounds, yet they gather around one faith, one Lord and one Eucharistic communion.
Catholic priests themselves come from different peoples and cultures, but their differences do not cancel the common mission Christ entrusted to the Church.
The Church does not say, “This ethnic group belongs to God more than that one”; rather, she teaches that every human being is a child of God and every people has dignity before Him.
So argue it if you wish, but the real question remains: how many institutions can bring people who disagree on almost everything to the same altar, with one faith and one hope of salvation?
