LIVER DISEASE AND DIETARY MANAGEMENT.The liver is undoubtedly one of the most important organs of the human body, located in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen. The liver is responsible for multiple functions including metabolic and synthetic functions. Therefore, it is essential to note all the warning signs of liver damage.
Things to avoid and reverse liver damage:
- Avoid alcoholic beverages
- Maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly
- Avoid smoking
- Avoid unprotected s*x
- Do not over consume fat soluble vitamin supplements

Warning signs of Liver damage
- Itchy skin
- Spider angiomas
- Frequent bruising and bleeding
- Swelling feet
- Sleep disturbance
- Vomiting blood
- Swelling in the abdomen also called Ascites

Generally, liver disease is defined as any disturbance in the functioning of the liver that leads to illness. There are two types of liver injury, one is Acute and the other is Chronic liver disease.
In Acute liver disease, like in Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E, patient may feel unwell with malaise, fever and abdominal pains. Later the patient may develop jaundice.
In Chronic liver disease, the damage is slow but progressive and there may not be any problem during early days. In the later stage, the patient may notice weight loss, edema feet, jaundice.

Dietary Management
- Eat large amounts of carbohydrates
- Take vitamin supplements especially B complex
- Eat a moderate intake of fat as prescribed by the dietitians
- Have about 1.2 to 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight [including plant protein]
- Avoid Alcohol:Any amount is considered unsafe for anyone with liver disease as it's a potential cause of more life damage
- Limiting factors:The body digests fat using bile a yellow-green fluid made in the liver. When the live is damaged the production and supply of bile may be affected,leading to digestive symptoms
- Avoid under cooked meat or sea foods: people with liver damage have impaired immune function .
