Concertgebouw, Amsterdam

The second half: Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.”

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Manfred Honeck conducting.

There’s something lovely about hearing familiar music live. The musicians, the hall, and even your own mood can change how you hear it.

Living away from Japan, I also find myself looking at the title “From the New World” a little differently.

An evening of music, and a small moment to reflect on life here.

Concertgebouw, Amsterdam

Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, performed by Augustin Hadelich with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Manfred Honeck.

One violin among so many musicians.
I find myself paying attention to the conversation between the soloist and the orchestra—the timing, the gestures, the shared breath.

My everyday work involves listening to people through touch.
An evening at a concert is a chance to listen in a different way.

A little space in the week for music.

Concertgebouw, Amsterdam

An evening with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Manfred Honeck.

The opening piece: Carlos Simon’s “Four Black American Dances.”

Ring Shout, Waltz, Tap!, and Holy Dance.
Having spent years dancing, these four titles immediately caught my attention.

Listening to dance through an orchestra offers another way to explore the connection between music and movement.

One of the pleasures of living in Amsterdam: evenings like this, discovering music along the way.

【The Weight of the Body — Requiem】

The final work in Dutch National Ballet’s Legacies was Requiem, choreographed by Toer van Schayk to Mozart’s monumental music.

Through powerful group scenes and deeply emotional duets, the work explores the damage humanity inflicts on the Earth—and our collective responsibility for it.

The dancers’ bodies seemed to carry fear, grief, struggle, and hope. Combined with the orchestra, choir, and voices, the movement became something almost beyond dance.

It was a powerful reminder that the body does not only express beauty. It can also hold memory, emotion, and the weight of our time.

【Less Is More — Simple Things】

The second work in Dutch National Ballet’s Legacies was Simple Things by Hans van Manen—one of the great masters of Dutch dance.

Created for four dancers, the piece reflects Van Manen’s signature philosophy: “less is more.” Every movement is clear and intentional, with nothing unnecessary.

The powerful, virtuosic male duets contrast beautifully with the elegance and subtle mystery of the female dancers. It shows how simplicity can reveal the smallest changes in posture, tension, balance, and connection.

A remarkable example of how the body can communicate so much—with so little.

【When the Body Becomes Music — Symphony in C】

I recently saw George Balanchine’s Symphony in C, performed by Dutch National Ballet as part of Legacies.

Set to Georges Bizet’s symphony, this masterpiece of neoclassical ballet unfolds across four movements, each with its own distinct choreography and composition.

The clarity of every line, the precision of each shift in balance, and the deep connection between movement and music were remarkable. Individual technique transformed into something even more powerful through the corps de ballet.

Working with the human body every day made me appreciate its extraordinary precision and energy even more.

🌍 World Traditional Medicine Forum 2026
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

More than 500 acupuncture and traditional medicine professionals from over 30 countries came together for this year’s forum.

The mornings featured keynote presentations in the main hall.
In the afternoons, the programme divided into three parallel sessions covering a wide range of topics—from education, history, and regulation to cancer care, women’s health, pain management, sports rehabilitation, and the latest clinical research.

It was an inspiring two days of learning how traditional medicine is taught, practised, and developed in different countries and regions around the world.

Next year’s forum is planned for Toronto, Canada.
We will continue building on our day-to-day clinical practice and learning, so that we can take part again.

🤖 Traditional Medicine × AI

At the World Traditional Medicine Forum, we came across an AI-powered device designed to support traditional East Asian medicine assessments.

It combines facial observation, tongue analysis, pulse readings from both wrists, and a short questionnaire to provide an objective reference for practitioners.

In acupuncture, observation, pulse diagnosis, and conversation remain essential—and there are many things only a skilled practitioner can perceive.

At the same time, technology can help improve consistency, support objective assessment, and expand how traditional medicine is used.

Rather than rejecting new tools, we believe in learning how to use them well—while continuing to deepen our own knowledge, skills, and human connection.

🌍 World Traditional Medicine Forum

We attended the World Traditional Medicine Forum, held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

It was a valuable opportunity to learn from presentations and discussions with experts and researchers from around the world—and to better understand how traditional medicine is being viewed and developed internationally.

At Loople, we value the knowledge, techniques, and philosophy we have cultivated over the years.

At the same time, we will continue learning from the wider world and evolving our practice for the better.

By staying connected to global trends, learning continuously, and applying those insights to our treatments and services, we are building a foundation to keep taking on new challenges.

This is where the culture comes alive.

People travel from all over the world to be here.

Different countries.
Different languages.
Different styles.
Different stories.

But when the music starts, all of that energy comes together on one floor.

For this moment, Amsterdam becomes a meeting point for dancers, artists, and communities from across the world — a place where people come not only to dance, but to connect, exchange, challenge, inspire, and experience the culture together.

You can feel the passion in the room.
The energy is real.

You don’t need to explain everything.
Sometimes you just have to be there, feel the music, and move.

This is the dance floor.
This is the community.
This is where the world comes together through dance.

Summer Dance Forever.
Amsterdam. 🔥🌍
