Sharing this again because it’s an important aspect of how we assess our clients:

Most people understand depth (how light or dark a colour is) and undertone (how warm or cool it is), but there’s a third property of colour: clarity.

Clarity refers to how pure or muted a colour appears. Bright, vibrant colours reflect light, while softer, dusty shades absorb it.
Even when the depth and undertone are right, clarity can make all the difference. Softer colouring is often overwhelmed by bright shades, while those with stronger colouring can find muted colours dull or draining.

For example, Sophie Ellis-Bextor shines in clear emerald green, whereas Kylie Minogue looks her best in softer, gentler tones. Clarity also affects fabric choice - satin enhances colour intensity by reflecting light, while jersey softens it by absorbing light.

As we all have an element of clarity in our colouring, it’s an important factor to consider when choosing clothes and make-up.

One of the biggest colour trends this year is butter yellow - a soft, creamy yellow that feels elegant, fresh and surprisingly wearable.

But here’s the secret: not everyone should wear the same butter yellow.

In tonal colour analysis, the best version depends entirely on your natural colouring:

✨ Lights look beautiful in soft creamy yellows
✨ Deeps - try combining primrose with a deeper shade from your palette
✨ Warms look fabulous in rich warm yellows
✨ Cools may prefer icy lemon rather than buttery gold
✨ Clears can wear a cleaner lemon yellow
✨ Softs suit a more oatmeal or softer yellow

We’re seeing plenty of earthy aubergine tones this season. If you’re a Deep, think of it as a versatile neutral that pairs beautifully across your palette, whether you team it with deeper shades for drama or lighter tones for contrast, it always works.
