4️⃣ ‘Taking the Plunge’: Episode 4 - The Original Cold Bath

Growing up in Harrogate, I thought it was a boring place and couldn’t wait to leave. But after living elsewhere for years, I realised that actually, we are very lucky to live in this beautiful and historic town.

As you’ve learnt from this series, Harrogate’s connection with water spans almost 500 years. A few years back I used contrast therapy to help get myself out of a hole, which opened me up to its ability to heal all sorts of issues. So I left London and my career, moved home, and started building this for the town.

My aim with Cold Bath Plunge is to:
• Reconnect Harrogate with its spa heritage
• Build a welcoming community space for hot and cold therapy
• Get people back outdoors and into nature
• Make sure it’s accessible to everyone

My content creation skills definitely need some work, but a massive thanks again to and Amy Monkman for filming it all.

3️⃣ ‘Taking the Plunge’: Episode 3 - Building the Spa Town

- From muddy puddles in the 1600’s, to one of Europe’s most luxurious Spa towns by 1900
- Two villages, ‘High’ and ‘Low’ Harrogate, connected by pathways between the springs
- The Stray protected by Parliament, meant public access to the waters, forever
- Harrogate has the strongest sulphur spring in Europe 🥇

- The waters turned a village of 800 into a town of 20,000
- The Royal Pump Rooms made taking the waters a social event
- Cold Bath Road was Harrogate’s original cold water therapy spot
- Victorian intuition + modern science: the cold water worked then, and it works now
