This soil painting by Oluwatobi Adedayo Olumide is an artistic tribute to Yemọja, the loving mother of the sacred waters and a symbol of nurturing, protection, and abundance.
‘Through the use of natural earth pigments, I sought to capture her gentle yet powerful presence and her deep connection to humanity.

The many faces woven into the composition represent the countless lives, stories, and generations embraced by Yemọja’s love. Just as rivers flow into the ocean, we are all connected through ancestry, community, and the guidance of the divine feminine spirit.

The earthy colors remind us of our roots and our bond with nature, while the flowing forms echo the movement of water—calm, life-giving, and ever-present. This work reflects the belief that Yemọja watches over her children, offering comfort, wisdom, and strength through every stage of life.

More than a painting, this piece is a reflection on motherhood, heritage, and the sacred relationship between the earth, water, and the human spirit.
