Today is a very special day for me — Serendy’s Skin Studio turns 10! 🎉✨

Ten years ago, I started my little studio with a dream of creating a place where women could slow down, take a breath, look after their skin and simply have some time for themselves.

I honestly never imagined that 10 years later, I would still be here, doing what I love, with so many beautiful women continuing to walk through my door. ❤️

When I look back, what makes me most grateful isn’t just the number of years.
It’s the people I’ve met along the way.

So many of you have been with me for years — through different stages of life, different skin concerns, busy seasons, stressful seasons, happy seasons… and of course, plenty of conversations and laughs along the way. 😂

Some of you come regularly, some of you can only treat yourself occasionally, and some of you disappear for a while and then suddenly appear at my door saying, “I really need a facial!” 😂

And I love that.

Even those who can’t always afford to come regularly but still think of me first when you have an opportunity to treat yourself — please know how much that means to me.

Every booking, recommendation, kind message, review, referral and simple “I’ll see you next time” has helped keep my little business going.

Running a small business on your own isn’t always easy. There have been plenty of challenging days over the past 10 years too. But then one of you walks through the door, tells me how much you needed this time for yourself, or says how much you love coming here… and I remember exactly why I started. 🥹❤️

You are the reason this little studio has become what it is today.

Your skin doesn’t always need the same thing. 🤍

When you come to see me, I don’t simply follow a treatment menu or automatically use the same exfoliation every time.

If you’re already on a course of treatments, we’ll usually continue with the plan we’ve carefully created together — but I always reassess your skin on the day.

Sometimes your skin can unexpectedly become more sensitive due to medications, sun exposure, sunburn, dehydration, dermatitis or an eczema flare-up. When that happens, I may adjust the treatment or skip exfoliation altogether. Healthy skin comes first.

For a first-time client, I take a thorough look at your skin and your current routine before deciding what type of exfoliation, if any, is appropriate.

And this is important: not every skin is ready for even a gentle chemical peel.

If your skin barrier is weakened from sun exposure, dehydration or an inconsistent skincare routine, even mild chemical exfoliation can feel too harsh. Sometimes the best treatment is actually to calm, hydrate and rebuild the skin barrier first.

So, what’s the difference between chemical exfoliation and physical exfoliation?

🌿 Chemical exfoliation
Uses ingredients such as AHAs, BHAs or other exfoliating acids to loosen and remove dead skin cells. Depending on the ingredient and strength, it can help improve:
• dullness and uneven texture
• congestion and blocked pores
• pigmentation and uneven skin tone
• overall smoothness and radiance

✨ Physical exfoliation
Uses gentle physical movement to help lift away surface dead skin cells — for example, a suitable facial scrub or microdermabrasion.

It can help:
• smooth rough, flaky surface skin
• improve softness and texture
• remove surface build-up
• leave the skin feeling fresh and polished

Neither is automatically “better”. The right choice depends on your skin, its condition and what it actually needs at that time.

Sometimes your skin needs exfoliation.
Sometimes it needs hydration.
Sometimes it needs calming and barrier support.

And sometimes, less is more.

There are so many skincare products and treatment options available these days that it can feel overwhelming trying to work out what your skin actually needs.

A little reminder from a small business owner 🤍

Today I had a no-show for the very first appointment of this new lady.

Luckily, this doesn’t happen often, and I am genuinely grateful for that. But it’s still frustrating.

I was completely ready for my new client.
The sheets were freshly changed and perfectly clean.
The candles were glowing. 🕯️
The towels were warm in the heater.
The treatment room was calm and ready.
And my mind was ready too — ready to welcome someone new and give them a beautiful experience.

And then… nobody arrived.

Of course, I understand that life happens. Emergencies happen. Things come up unexpectedly.

But when an appointment is simply forgotten or someone chooses not to show up without letting me know, it has a much bigger impact than you might realise.

Especially at the moment, with the cost of living and the economy making things harder, I have definitely felt the impact in my little business. Skincare and beauty treatments are, understandably, something people can choose to cut back on when they need to be more careful with their spending.

I completely understand that.

But for me, this is my livelihood.
This is my small business. This is how I make a living. 🤍

When you book an appointment with a small business, that time is reserved especially for you. I prepare for you, I turn away other bookings for that time, and I put my time, energy, care and love into making sure everything is ready.

So if you can’t make your appointment, please just let me know. Even a simple message is so much better than silence.

Please remember that behind every small business is a real person who works hard, worries about bookings, pays bills, and genuinely cares about what they do.

I don’t share this to make anyone feel bad. I simply want to ask for a little understanding and respect for small businesses. 🙏🏻

As we welcome spring, many of us are enjoying warmer days and beautiful blossoms — but for some, spring can also mean more sensitive, reactive and irritated skin.

With increased pollen, wind and environmental changes, your skin may feel:
