More from China trip ........ The Forbidden city in Beijing was a real treat, even though it was a sweltering day. It is massive and was reminded of the movie The Last Emperor. Have you seen it?

The palace gained its name from its enormous scale and severely restricted access to all but the emperor, the imperial family, and their eu**ch servants; hence the Chinese term "Forbidden City" emerged.The punishment for unauthorised entry to the palace was immediate ex*****on.

The common English name "Forbidden City" is a translation of the Chinese name Zijincheng.

The name "Zijincheng" has significance on many levels. Zi, or "purple", refers to the North Star, which in ancient China was called the Ziwei Star, and in traditional Chinese astrology was the heavenly abode of the Jade Emperor. The surrounding celestial region, the Ziwei Enclosure was the realm of the Jade Emperor and his family. The Forbidden City, as the residence of the terrestrial emperor, was its earthly counterpart. Jin refers to a prohibition or taboo.

Right in front of the Forbidden City is Tiananmen Square. Apparently it can hold 1 million people. they know that because it has 500 thousand tiles and two people can stand on each one.

It was founded on October 1, 1949, by Chairman Mao Zedong, who stood at the gate and announced the start of the People's Republic of China.

It is horrible to think that so many died in the 1989 Protests. This is where students and workers gathered to ask for more freedom, democracy, and less corruption.

Out on my walk this morning and the view was stunning. I had to capture this so I would remind myself how we so need these moments of simplicity. I breathed in the beauty.

I have been away from facebook for a while and now I am back. Doing spiritual work sometime you just have to take time out for yourself. And no social media😁😍

I thought I would post a few of my china trip. We spent a week in Guangzhou and then onto Beijing where we spent a week on our own before hooking up with the Wendy Wu tours. Here is Grant and I on the Great Wall. Taking a Didi taxi for 1 1/2 hours to get there, was a breeze and paying through Alipay App was easy and a must for travellers to China. Much easier and safer than your credit card.

I must divulge that I had a past life experience here. So it was quite emotional for me. A very special day for us.

It is incredible to know that the wall was started in 700BC, however did not look like this originally. The most famous sections were constructed by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, in the 3rd century BC to protect his newly unified country from northern invasions.
