Dry lips? Before anything else — are you drinking enough water? Dry skin and lips are often your body's first warning sign that it needs more. But if it's this cold weather that's doing it, we've absolutely got you covered. Here's a look at some of the lip balms we stock. It's quite the selection.

These little British tins have been around since the 1920's, and for good reason. Nipits are pure liquorice pellets, and liquorice root is a great demulcent: it coats and soothes an irritated throat and calms a tickly cough. Perfect for this time of year when there are lots of tickly throats about. We stock two varieties — Pure, and Menthol, which adds eucalyptus and aniseed oil for extra clearing action.

I was thinking about how incredible nature is today as I refilled this container with bright orange Calendula.

Calendula doesn't just look like sunshine, it's built from it. That vivid orange is carotenoids at work, protecting the plant from UV damage and oxidative stress. The same properties that keep the plant healthy do the same for your skin: calming inflammation, supporting healing, soothing what's been irritated or worn down. Colour as medicine. Nature's been doing this a long time.

Remember that blue jar of Vicks your mum would pull out the moment you had a cold? The one that made your eyes water just opening it? Turns out mineral oils and synthetic ingredients weren't doing much beyond the smell.

These days we have better chest rub options. Between them, these three have a simple ingredients list of olive oil, beeswax, coconut and avocado oil, with the therapeutic essential oils that do the work: eucalyptus, tea tree, thyme, marjoram, wintergreen, scotch pine needle, and lavender. No petroleum. No synthetics.
