Memory lane Monday -
Skimpys! (This story was sent & and been edited by me!)
I started work in the late 90s as an apprentice sprayer in Phillipstown. Working, playing sport going out on the weekend with the lads, gf Sunday.
Had a mate from my area join the co. and we soon became work pals. After work beers, Monday catch ups, gossipping about the hood.
Then on a Friday at the pub down the road they started having skimp bar tenders during the day. In the vein of Atami but it was more casual & relaxed. As in come down for lunch maybe a few jugs and we will put out the eye candy. It soon became our tradition to go down every Friday. Few of the lads form work went down to. And it was common practice to take a few hours for lunch and come back in the afternoon. This went on a for a few years. Caught on too. The pub was always full on a Friday & it soon became the thing to do. Jug of CD, fish & chips for lunch, Jug of CD to wash it down with. We never missed behaved, sure we got into it but it was tamed. This carried on for a few years. Bar maids came & went but we turned up. The price of a jug maybe went up by 50c in that time. But the run came to an end - not due to H&S. But I got another role else with a pay rise & a bit more seniority. Sadly it was on the otherside of town.
Then that was that. Never went to that bar again. Few years had passed (now mid 2000s) heard from a mate that the they packed in the Skimpys. Too many complaints from bosses that their staff were coming back worse for wear. Not sure you can blame the pub for that but they did. Sadly that pub has gone now. But here is a photo of this magical place, where you could get a smile & wave with your jug & lunch!

Then and now -
Lets go to the corner of High & Manchester street. Now home to the Marlowe Restaurant & Bar. Was the very infamous Exclesior Hotel. Which was a very good sports bar with a full TAB in it's day!
Loving these from Camo;
Legends got stuck in that fallout when Sol Square hit the scene and it was just a wee bit out of the way. They then started doing gigs that led to the birth of the Bedford! At its peak easily 1200 peeps in there. Just behind Grail at 1,500. Ministry was just below Legends I believe

Young kids today go - ugghhh Sunday scaries!
Really? Try falling of a mechanical bull then bombing at karaoke...at the same bar. All before 2am and you still have 3 hours to go at this place!
Questions for the ladies in the late 90s & 2000s -
was it weird going home after a meeting a guy out on the town and waking up in the morning seeing that he had a miniature Dodge Viper on display?
