Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) applies light energy to the skin. The light passes directly through the skin and is absorbed by either the small blood vessels when treating broken capillaries and rosacea, or the melanin when treating pigmentation. The body’s natural processes remove the injured tissue giving the skin a more even skin tone. As well as the benefits for the evenness and colour of the skin, treatment can make skin appear more youthful and helps to add small amounts of collagen back into the skin, improving skin texture.

This result reflects a series of IPL treatments focused on reducing visible redness and uneven pigmentation.

IPL works by targeting pigment and vascular irregularities within the skin, helping to improve overall tone over time.

Results are typically progressive rather than immediate, and treatment plans are always tailored to the individual.

Consistent treatment, combined with appropriate aftercare and sun protection, plays an important role in maintaining results.

If you’re interested in understanding whether IPL is suitable for your skin, a consultation is the best place to start.

Skin checks aren’t just for “outdoorsy” people.

Sun exposure adds up over time - whether it’s from beach days, driving, walking the dog, or everyday life. That’s why anyone can benefit from a regular skin check, not just those who spend hours in the sun.

Checking your skin regularly helps catch new or changing spots early, giving you peace of mind and protecting your long-term skin health.

IPL 101: What it can treat and what it can’t.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is designed to target pigment and redness in the skin.

✨ What it can treat:
• Broken capillaries
• Sun spots / pigmentation
• Age spots
• Redness and uneven skin tone

⚠️ What it can’t treat:
• Raised moles
• Skin cancers
• Seborrhoeic keratosis or other raised lesions

That’s why a proper skin assessment is always the first step before treatment.

A seborrhoeic keratosis is usually a benign “stuck-on” looking growth (often waxy, rough, or raised).

A melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can look like a new or changing mole/spot.

The tricky part? Some spots can look similar in photos - which is why a proper assessment matters.

If you’ve got a spot that’s new, changing, bleeding/crusting, itchy, or looks different from your others, get it checked.
