Relishing the season.

I've been embracing a season of life that has drawn me more deeply into my Māori heritage, my love for whānau, and a growing sense of hope.

I've always loved the changing seasons. Winter has a way of reminding us that to truly appreciate warmth, we first need to know the cold. It slows us down, invites reflection, and quietly whispers that spring is never far away.

This past week has beautifully captured the rhythm of life. I had the privilege of giving a toddler their very first haircut, full of wonder and excitement. Just days earlier, I was welcomed into a family's home to provide a personalised end-of-life haircut and beard trim for a loved one. What an incredible privilege—to witness both beginnings and farewells, and to be trusted in moments that matter so deeply.

Life is busy, but I'm learning to pause. To sit in the winter sun with a good coffee. To spend time with good friends. To celebrate milestones with whānau. And at the same time, to remain open to the new things life continues to bring.

Even in winter, daffodils begin to bloom. They remind us that hope has a habit of appearing before we fully expect it. They acknowledge that while some seasons involve loss, they also carry the promise of new life.

I believe I've been given a unique opportunity to bring hope, mana, kindness, and encouragement to the people I have the privilege of rubbing shoulders with each day. Whether behind the chair, sharing a conversation, or simply doing life together, these moments matter.

Our salon has found a new hum, a new warmth, and a renewed sense of energy as our expanded team continues to grow together. It's exciting to see.

And being 2 years into being a grandad has opened my eyes in unexpected ways. It's brought back precious memories of raising our own children and reminded me how special all those "firsts" really are.

Today, my heart is full.

I am deeply grateful.

I am richly blessed.

I am still living the dream with my business partner & best mate, Stu, co-owning Milton Andrews; however, now it's time to share the next chapter.

I have stepped into a new role in the South Island as an educational/ambassador for Dateline Imports, which is also our hair salon supplier.

This involves travelling the South Island, helping salon teams to evolve, which is me through and through.

I get to take everything I have learnt behind the chair and share.

Lani is leaving the Milton Andrews team to pursue her goal of becoming a teacher. While we're sad to see her go, we're excited to see her follow a path she's passionate about.
