Today I’m going to share something a little different.

In June 2023, a lady rang and booked an appointment for gel nails.
In she walked, fizzing to get them done. She sat down and said, “I don’t know what you could do with these, but they are a mess.”

We came up with a plan — and who would have thought that from that day, she would touch my heart so deeply. She had me in fits of laughter and was so inspiring to listen to.

Little did she know, I had secretly adopted her as my other nana.

I looked forward to each appointment, as did she. She let the kids pick the colours, and even if they didn’t come with me, she still went ahead with their chosen colours.

We continued to have the most amazing chats. I then started doing home visits with you, and you were always so thankful — but honestly, I loved coming just to hang out.

You always said you chose your colours so you never knew what you were getting. Plus, we had your husband as our servant for tea and biscuits.

Joan, you touched my heart, even though we only knew each other for a couple of years. You would always ring if you couldn’t make it, and you always made me smile.

I am so grateful for having you in my life and for sharing all your amazing stories. Your humour was second to none, even on the tougher days. We giggled through so many jokes.

I searched everywhere to see you over the last few days, trying to find a gap — and then came the news that you were gone.

I’m sorry I didn’t get to freshen your nails before your time.

You will always be in my heart, and I will forever be grateful for the knowledge, laughter, and love you shared with me.
