Mum had her rongoā wānanga on the weekend. I wanted to go but wasnt allowed. She stayed at a convent ⛪️ in Hiruharama, up the Whanganui River.
They went to a special place to learn about the place and do some harvesting.
She came home with some rongoā goodies for US 🍃🌱🌿. I was soooooo happy ☺️.
The day they were coming home she nearly didnt make it because there was a slip. It was a small one and they cleared a track and got out. Im glad my māmā came home to me ❤️.

Wānanga 3: Ritenga Hau Tuku
The purpose of this wānanga was about release & unburdening. Letting go of unwanted energies, thoughts, emotions, and releasing whānau and friends who have passed away to ‘Te whata na Maru’.
We also learnt about taonga puoro, their roles in ritenga and their part in rongoā. The best part for me was learning how to play them. Mum thought I was cool but also a show off coz she couldn’t make one work 🤣.
The ritenga was beautiful, you had to be there to understand. It was cold, the stars were bright and the moon 🌙 was big. After the ritenga, we had a mean kai.

Wānanga 1: Ritenga - Hau Ora 🌬️
At the start of the year me and mum shared with the whanau of taiapo_oranga, Te Kahui Wahine & Te Kāhui Tāne o Taranaki our passion of rongoā. We talked about the many forms of rongoā, to plant ID, the importance of te maramataka, tikanga and actually making rongoā. Me and mum had so much fun, but the best part for us was seeing them identify the rākau & asking questions when we went for our hīkoi up the maunga.
Thank you very much for having us ❤️
