Kia ora everyone! I get asked about borax a lot, so I wanted to take a moment to explain why we use it in our castile soap - and why you don't need to worry.
The confusion usually comes from mixing up borax with boric acid, and honestly, I get it. If you google borax, some of what comes up can look a bit alarming. But they're not the same thing at all.
Boric acid is toxic - and you'll never find anything like that in a Be Natural product. Borax is a natural mineral salt. It's actually an essential trace element in human physiology, and we've had a biochemist confirm that the tiny concentrations we use are completely safe.
In our soap-making process, we add borax towards the end as a buffer. It neutralises any remaining lye that hasn't fully saponified, which stabilises the soap and makes it gentler and more effective. It also helps produce a better lather - so it's doing real work.
Simple, pure, and safe. That's what Be Natural is about, and borax helps us get there.
