Speaking yesterday about my story and the last four years of building Earthwoven made me realise something.

There is so much to learn in the first few years of business.

You learn marketing.
You learn numbers.
You learn finance, investment and capital.
You learn manufacturing, branding, content creation, operations.

You wear every hat, and unless you are coming into business with a huge amount of experience already, you have to learn as you go.

But at the same time, there is another kind of learning happening too.

You grow yourself.

Earthwoven has taught me so much about what I can and cannot control. Other people’s responses, other people’s reactions, how to act professionally instead of personally, where boundaries need to sit, how to back myself, how to build confidence, how to accept failure and keep moving anyway.

That internal growth is such a massive part of business.

In my experience, the commercial side does not really work without it either. You can learn the numbers and the strategy, but if you cannot manage yourself through pressure, criticism, setbacks, uncertainty and other people’s opinions, it becomes very hard to keep building.

And the internet is loud now.

People are loud.
Opinions are everywhere.
Everyone has access to everyone.

So I think it is really important to remember that we are all on our own path, learning different things at different times.

Being in a room yesterday with women who were genuinely interested, supportive, encouraging and wanting to connect with each other was such a good reminder of that.

Collaboration over competition has always been something I really believe in.

There is enough room for all of us to do well ✍🏼

The annoying thing about skincare is you can research something for three weeks and still not know exactly how your skin will feel about it until you use it.

As I’m sure we are all hearing, business is tough at the moment. I’m incredibly lucky to have such an amazing crew who keep me going, returning customers who I’ve now come to know personally, and people I’ve never even met sending messages and encouraging me to keep going.
