Barbering the way it should be, with care, consideration and above all a passion for what we do, anything from a fade to a hot shave.

Kia ora whānau,

Just a heads up that the barbershop will be closed today.

Gary has been holding things down on his own to help keep the business running, and right now he needs some well-deserved time to rest, reset, and focus on a bit of self-care. It’s been a really tough few weeks for us all, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and kindness during this time.

Ajay will be back on Monday and, as always, she’ll do her very best to make sure all of our customers are looked after with the care and dedication she’s always given to the shop and the community. We do ask for a little patience and understanding if she needs to take the occasional break while finding her balance again.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all the love, support, and care shown to our barbershop whānau and our whānau personally. It means more than words can say.

Much love,
Ajay & Gary.

Kia Ora whanau,

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that we have lost one of our own, sadly Ajay's oldest son, Jason, passed away a few days ago.

As you can imagine this will be a difficult period for Ajay and her whanau and I know that you will join with me in showing her the aroha, patience and support that she and her whanau need to work through a difficult period.

Haere, haere, haere atu rā Jason. Moe mai I roto i rangimariē.

Kia kaha my sister ♥️♥️

Kia ora koutou ✂️

Just a little update for February.

Gary and I will be trialling alternative Mondays off — giving us a chance to build better balance outside of work while still showing up strong in the shop.

There will also be a small price increase.
This wasn’t an easy decision, especially knowing times are tough, but it’s needed for us to stay sustainable and continue moving forward.

📍 Nelson Anniversary Day (Monday):
AJ will be working to get the ball rolling.

🗓️ This week: • Monday – Open
• Tuesday–Thursday – Open
• Friday & Saturday – Closed (Waitangi )

We’ll then return the following week to our new normal for now.

Thank you all for the continued support — we’re grateful for every one of you.
Ngā mihi, AJ & Gary 🤍

Lil Fellas Haircut Notice

Kia ora e te whānau,

As many of you know, there are a few changes happening at the barbershop. This message is especially for parents and caregivers bringing in our tamariki.

Please take a moment to read:

• We welcome all ages — from our youngest little fellas through to our kaumātua.

• We do a large number of children’s haircuts, including tamariki with sensory needs.

• The barbershop can be a new and overwhelming environment — noise, people, movement, and a new face.

• For many children, this can feel scary at first — and that’s completely okay.

To help your child have the best experience:

• Please avoid bringing tamariki when they are tired, hungry, unsettled, or overdue for sleep.
• After 4pm is not ideal for young children — their energy is low, and so is mine.
• First haircuts are often the hardest; the second and third get much easier as trust builds.
• Consistency helps — long gaps between haircuts can mean starting the process again.

For new families:

• You’re welcome to come in just to visit — no pressure to get a haircut.
• Your child may or may not get their hair cut on the first visit — that’s okay.
• Building relationships comes first.
In the shop:

• We provide toys, distractions, ice blocks and juice and a relaxed approach.
• Movement is okay — I work around children safely.
• Please avoid using fear-based language (e.g. “don’t move or cut ear's).

Wait times:

• Little fellas will be prioritised where possible to reduce long waits.
• Short attention spans are real — and we respect that.

At the heart of our shop is:
He tangata, he tangata, he tangata — the people, the people, the people.

We don’t do bookings — just come in, have a kōrero, and see how your child feels.
If we vibe, awesome. If not, that’s okay too.

Ngā mihi nui,
Ajay

Small update from The Barbers on Nile Stre✂️
We’re making a gentle update to our price list and hours, effective 1st February 2026.

This change is about keeping the standard high, looking after our bodies, and making sure we can keep showing up for our community long-term.

We’ve tried to keep these changes fair and minimal, while better reflecting the time, skill, and care that goes into each cut.

As always — thank you for supporting local, for the kōrero in the chair, and for backing us the way you do.

Appreciate you all 🙏
— Ajay & Gary
