💅✨ FACT OF THE WEEK: GEL DOESN’T DRY… IT CURES! ✨💗

Did you know there’s actually a difference between drying and curing? 👀

Regular nail polish dries when the solvents in the polish evaporate into the air. Gel polish works completely differently! 💅🏼

Gel products contain ingredients called photoinitiators, which react when exposed to the correct UV/LED light. This starts a chemical reaction called curing, which hardens the gel and turns it into the durable coating we all know and love. ✨

💡 So why is proper curing SO important?

If gel isn’t cured correctly, it may not fully harden. This can affect how well your manicure lasts and can leave uncured product underneath the surface.

That’s why as a nail tech, I always make sure I’m using the correct lamp, correct curing time and appropriate application thickness for the products I’m using. 💗

And remember — more time under the lamp doesn’t always mean better curing! The lamp needs to be compatible with the gel system being used.

✨ Proper curing = a safer, stronger and longer-lasting manicure.

So next time someone says their gel “needs to dry”… you can tell them:

“Gel doesn’t dry — it CURES!” 💅🏼✨

💅 “Do gel nails cause cancer?”

This is probably one of the questions that gets asked the most, and it’s completely understandable with everything we see online.

The good news? Gel nails themselves don’t cause cancer.

The discussion is actually around the UV/LED lamp used to cure the gel. The amount of UV exposure during a typical nail appointment is very low, but if you’d like extra peace of mind, there are simple things you can do—like applying SPF to your hands before your appointment or wearing UV-protective manicure gloves.
