Stylist Spotlight: Zara (Apprentice)

If you've met Zara, you get it.

She's a lil gen z and a lil old soul, 21 going on 45 and 45 going on 21. Lives for anything a little alternative, and has an unfair amount of natural talent for someone who's just completed their qualification.

Her blow waves are stupid good. Her head massages have been described as "I nearly fell asleep" and she's the kind of person who'll quietly obsess over getting the little details right and hype you up at the end of your appointment.

If you're after a fresh face who genuinely gives a s**t, likes making cool hair, and is only getting better by the week, she's well worth jumping in her chair.

What salon do you go to? Oh.. just the best!

Benji and I had the privilege of joining some of the awesome students from Ara for Free Haircuts & Other Services for Those in Need.

This was the very first time the event has been held in Christchurch, and it was such a cool thing to be part of. Haircuts are never just haircuts.

A huge shout out to Melissa for bringing this event to Christchurch and putting so much work into making it happen. It was incredibly special to see so many people and businesses come together to support our community.

We're so grateful we could be involved, and we really hope this is the first of many.

Every qualified stylist on our floor is recognised by Hair & Barber New Zealand, and by September we'll have another team member crossing that finish line too. We're real proud of that!

Something a lot of people don't realise is that in New Zealand, hairdressers aren't legally required to hold a formal qualification. There are some incredibly talented people in our industry with different career paths, but qualifications aren't automatically a given.

For us, investing in education has always been non-negotiable. It means our team has a strong technical foundation, nationally recognised training, and continues learning long after qualification. That's the standard we've chosen for our salon.
